I've owned many vehicles but never a Jeep. Being USA based, Jeeps are a dime a dozen. I grew up in the UK and I remember when Jeep began importing the Wrangler YJ and the Cherokee XJ in the early 1990s. On my newspaper round there was a really nice black wrangler YJ Limited. Every time I've rode in a Wrangler I've come away wanting.

A few years ago I was offered a cheap 2004 Subaru Forester 2.5 X from a friend. I replaced everything inoperable and I made small modifications to improve its off road ability. Some of the upgrades included Primitive Racing engine, transmission and rear diff skid plates. KYB shocks with King Springs 1.5 inches over stock. 15x7 Sparco Terra Wheels with BF Goodrich KO2 All Terrains. The Forester has been pushed far beyond what it was designed for. It's unstoppable in the snow and takes forest roads with ease. It has been truly amazing with an open diff symmetrical all wheel drive.

While the Subaru has been great, I need something more capable to explore in. So I was looking at the 2 door JL Wrangler Rubicon and the JK Gladiator Rubicon or Mojave. My friend had just picked up a 2024 Gladiator Mojave X with 12,000 miles for 35,000 GBP. It has a 2 inch AEV lift, Method wheels with 37" tires, ARB onboard air, Warn Zeon winch and a manual sway bar disconnect. I took it for a drive and fell in love with how it. Being sat in the cockpit it feels like purposeful, like your'e about to go on an adventure. I've driven many trucks, but the Gladiator feels totally different. It feels and looks like fun, inside and out. It was such a joy to drive. Compared to a 2 or 4 door, the ride feels much smoother due to the long wheel base. Everything designed on the current JL/JT line up is meant for having fun.

The Rubicon is made for rock crawling and has the front and rear locking diff, electric sway bar disconnect and 4:1 transfer case. The Mojave is made for Desert Running and for high speed off road.It has Fox shocks 2.5" internal bypass with remote reservoirs and fox hydraulic jounce bumpers. Rear locking diff only. from the B pillar back the steel frame is 10.5 mm thick, instead of the standard Gladiator thickness of 6.5mm. Dark green leather interior with orange stitching, finger grips on the steering wheel and more aggressive seat bolsters.

The X version has about $10,000 in options over the regular Mojave. Which to me is worth it in money and time of doing the options myself. I can add manual sway bar disconnect, front locking diff and transfer case at a later time.

I began my search for the Mojave X.

It's getting late, I will continue the write up tomorrow.

No idea what most of that tech spec means, but it looks awesome and looks like it’d have no problem with climbing anything less than Mount Everest. I think I’d like one just to annoy Tyre Extinguishers, if they’re still a thing.
I’ve had three Foresters (I’m in the UK) and with winter tyres they were more capable than the Land Cruisers I’ve had in snow etc.

Mental. Not sure it's ideal for me in London, so I'll probably pass. Looks like a hoot. Enjoy.

Very interesting. As a fan of trophy trucks and Ultra 4 things, it seems well spec'd. Unfortunately here in the UK there are very, very few Jeep aftermarket suppliers, which means a very small following of Jeeps, we of course have Land Rover. The only real aftermarket company in the UK is more for the 'mall crawlers', to use an American term.
As much as I'll enjoy your input here, I think it may not quite get the audience you may be looking for, being a mainly an English site.

Thanks. The Mojave would be great in London, you wouldn't have to stop for potholes. The problem with U.S. parts being sent to the U.K. is that there is always a hefty import tax. Anytime I've received stuff from the UK or Europe there are no fees. I think I've seen the aftermarket Jeep company you're referring to on youtube. I like the original defenders but I'm not going to spend exotic prices for something that used to cost a couple of grand. Old defenders are well in excess of $50k.

No worries if this thread dies a death, I see the other Jeeps on here have and that's OK. Right now I'm really happy with it and just wanted to share.

So I was shopping around and there are a lot of new old stock on the dealer lots, mainly because Stellantis increased their prices and the MSRP's are a rip off. The spec I wanted was the 2024 Mojave X, 2024 being the first year for the X trim. 2024's are significantly nicer than the 20-23's thanks to the Ford Bronco.

There is only one engine choice for the Gladiator unlike the Wrangler. The eco diesel was stopped in 2023. Having the choice of 6 speed manual or 8 speed auto, I went with the auto since this will be used off road a lot. I absolutely wanted the color to be High Velocity Clearcoat which is like BMW Dakar Yellow. I found one in Central Tennessee with 6000 miles, 9 months old, 1 owner. Carfax showed the vehicle was purchased in Tennessee and stayed there since new. Being a Southern vehicle that is important due to our warm climate and the roads here are not salted in the winter.

3 year/36,000 mile bumper to bumper and 5 year/60,000 mile power train warranty. MSRP $70,300 / £52,801. I paid $45,000 / £33,798 plus North Carolina sales tax (VAT) at 4.75%, so around $2000. So around £35,000 for a fully loaded Gladiator. Insurance is fully comprehensive and is around 50 quid. Road Tax which is known as vehicle property tax where I live is 40 quid for the year. Currently it is on temporary Tennessee tags, which means a temporary number plate until the DMV processes the registration change and the permanent number plate is issued.

Below is the build sheet, I edited the Vin info for privacy. The EPA MPG of 17 City, 22 Highway translates to UK figures of 20.4 city / 26.4 Motorway. In the real world however purely driving on the interstate at 70mph I am getting around 28 mpg UK and locally on rural roads 23.5 mpg UK. Which I am more than happy with, considering its an off road truck, it has 33 inch mud tires, the frame from the B pillar back is nearly twice the thickness of the Rubicon and 1 inch higher lift than the Rubicon. The Sport/S Trim levels can tow 7650 pounds with the max tow package. The Rubicon is 6600lbs because of the suspension and the Mojave is less at 6500lbs due to the trick fox suspension which I'm fine with.

The Gladiator drove extremely well on the way home. I can barely feel the bumps in the road. The cabin is a lovely cosy place to be. It feels very unique and plush like a trophy truck. There is plenty of room inside to be comfortable. I am 6'3 and it fits just right. lll take more photos when I get some time. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase.

That look great in yellow OP.

Is the registration process long winded over there?

Can't believe the cost of Insurance and Road tax....we can only dream!

Enjoy.

Cheers,

Chris

hehe
I also like the build sheets all cars seem to have, so much easier than scouring ad photos for that elusive extra button or a glimpse of a sunroof.

I watch a couple of American off road channels and the want for a Jeep is high, especially as they arent overly common in the UK compared to the other SUVs. Never looked into their reliabiity though.

Didnt even know about the Movave being different so thats enlightening. Look forward to seeing what you do with it .
