Sorry I know its probably been done many times before but I need the help of the pistonhead massiff for some suggestions.

I have decided I'm due a new helmet and need some options to narrow down my choice a little. Now I know what fits one person won't fit somebody else however if I had 3 or 4 possibilities to try on that would be helpful.

Ideally I would like :

Flip helmet
As quiet as possible
A wide viewing aperture
Pinlock
Don't want a d-ring fastener
Not fussed about comms
Nothing to leary, plain and low key is good.

Willing to push the boat out for a nice lid that fits the criteria and fits my head.

I bought a Shoei Neotec 3 after years of ‘regular’ full face helmets, and I’d say it meets all your criteria. And the bonus of a made-to-fit Sena sound system. Hard to fault really…and there’s a built in sun visor thingy that I thought I’d never use, but I’ve even found that useful.

Only thing is the weight - it’s much heavier than any of my previous [Shoei, for about the last 30 years] full face helmets. But I gather it’s not just because it’s a flip front, but to meet the latest regs lots of helmets have got heavier.

I gather some of the older Neotecs got a reputation for leaking, but the Neotec 3 has been fine, and it’s been through some long rides that turned out to be monsoons.

The Shoei's are my go to as well. From the synchrotec, multitec, through to the neotecs. They've always fitted me well and lasted many thousands of road miles.
I still have the Neotec 2 as I haven't had it that long and can't really justify the 3.

I've also tried a few other flip fronts and always gone back to Shoei.

Fit is all important though really, so get down to somewhere like sports bike shop and try a few on.

Neotec2 owner here, and it’s the best helmet I’ve owned. Ticks all your boxes, but obviously comfort will depend on the shape of your head.

A question the OP might want to think about is how quiet the helmet is. I find that I have to wear earplugs all the time as it's just really uncomfortable for me without them.

Out of the 4 of us that go out I'm the only one that wears them. Even my wife says she prefers it without them. My last 2 helmets have been shark and bell.

Out of interest what are the quietest helmets from experience?

Thanks for the replies, I had thought about the Shoei Neotec 3 and it was on my short list, just wondered if anyone had any experience of other flip up lids that I may of overlooked or not thought off.

I have an AGV Flip-up and meets those requirements, although difficult to measure how quiet compared to others.
Has all the cut-outs for a Sena, or similar, I wore mine for over 3 hours yesterday without really noticing
I find the built-in tinted visor useful, especially when toodling through town and you want the front flipped up

If, and it's a very big IF, a Schuberth C4 will fit then you get carbon versions for around £300. They are quiet and as light as a flip front can be.

But do check they fit because there are lots that they don't fit.

Sorry, a quick Google suggests that all the "normal" sizes at cheap prices have now sold out, unless you have a tiny head!!!

I'm not surprised as they are a great helmet if they fit.

Ive been wearing the Shark EVO-GT over the last 12 years and really happy with it. Picked up one of the last "old" models in the sale few months back £420 down to £150 as the new model called "OXO" has replaced it. On the new model Shark changed the interior shape and it doesnt suit me, so dont want one of those.

If you search around online there are some bargain colours/sizes out there in the old EVO-GT model, it comes with pinlock in the box.

Another vote for the Shark Evo. They don't perhaps have the quality feel of the Shoei, but the tinted inner visor and ability to flip the chinguard right back is very useful, and the visor opening is large so visibility is excellent.

I see there are offers at under £200 at the moment on some models.

I run a shark evoline but I'd not recommend it, was great initially but build quality isn't great, trim falling off after a couple of years. It's also not particularly quiet, could be down to the shape vs my aero screen which you just can't test before buying.

I'll be looking at a schuberth to replace it next year

I have an HJC RPHA90 that meets the requirements, so could be a possibility.

Neotec 3 here too, wasn't impressed at first, but back on a naked bike again and it's super quiet

Thanks all...Neotec 3 and Schuberth C4 on the shortlist...not really given any thought to the Shark, AGV or HTC lids...I'll do a bit of read up on them.....best get myself down to Sportsbikeshop and try them all on.....went out today as its glorious weather and I'm now more convinced then ever that the noise suppression is probably most important to me as I ride a naked bike...I always wear earplugs but without a screen and with my current helmet definitely looking for something quieter.

If you are anywhere near Moto Central then John is awesome at doing helmet fittings. They have all the main brands and he will work out what suits you best.

It's only 15 minutes from the Triumph factory if you've not been its worth a visit around the museum and a tour round the factory.
