Hi all,

In the latest of a series of issues that really highlight the "character" of these cars, the Navi screen on my 2009 V8 does this weird thing were it will pop up normally when I start the car, but then it will half close again after a few seconds...If I gently push it back up it will go and stay in position, without any further issues...

It won't happen on every start up - but will happen quite often. I've noticed it will definitely happen if the car is parked on an incline (even a slight one) or if parked under the sun for some time and the cabin is warm.

Any ideas what this might be?

P.S, I have the CarPlay upgrade, but it was working normally for quite some time after installation

Sounds like it could be worn or wearing teeth in the plastic cogs that operate the opening and closing mechanism. If you have CarPlay I would assume you use the screen almost every time you drive your car. Some useful information to be found in these two links. HTH a bit. BRM.

I had this happen when Aston Installations fitted my previous car with their upgraded screen and carplay. As a rule they also replace the little plastic cogs however, there is also some sort of clutch arrangements that allows the mechanism to slip in case it comes up against some force. It was found that mine was slipping without additional force and so another replacement mechanism was sought and this did the trick.

Aston installations sell a gear kit. Maybe call them and ask their opinion first. If it’s that, it’s a cheap fix.

I bought some longer, stronger springs and that fixed it. But I like the emery cloth idea - I'll file that away for next time!
