Mrs AB wants to take the kids to Venice in May half term, I'm ambivalent to the idea. Would probably be 3 or 4 nights and would want to stay somewhere central with a swimming pool and decent accommodation i.e. a separate living area for when the kids are in bed.
Flights from Manchester or Liverpool.
Can anyone offer me some advice?
Cheers

We've not been there for a few years but have stayed in 2 hotels with pools in the past. The first was

The hotel runs a shuttle over to St Marks every 20 minutes or so which means you can escape the madness if it gets too busy. But £5 for a coke was a bit of a stretch and that was 10 years ago.
And the second was

It has a rooftop pool and bar which was a great place to watch the boats going up and down the canal.
Neither was cheap but Venice isn't a cheap place anyway. I'd agree, kids will get very bored very quickly and I'd also check if the pools are open in May as it might still be a bit chilly for the Italians.
One benefit of staying in Venice itself is that it changes in the evening when the day-trippers have left and it's quite a pleasant place to walk around and find some decent local food.
Maybe another option would be to fly into Verona as there is a few more things to see and do there and do a day trip on the train to Venice which is only an hour or so away.

The Cipriani has an amazing pool, but I only stayed there because someone else was paying (corporate) as I think it starts at £1.5k per night for the smallest room off-season
I've been 3 times and as already said I'd not take kids to Venice, at least until they are old enough to appreciate the history and architecture.
