Got to fix a balustrade onto a deck for an elderly neighbour. Unsure of the construction of the deck and aside from taking it all apart it seems I have 2 options for fixing the posts. Once is to create a half lap and screw to the outside of the decking with some timber screws or get some brackets like the ones below but unsure of how strong they will actually be?

Posts need to be bolted into the sub frame. No way would I trust the brackets linked for anything which could be leaned on or climbed over.

That's kind of what I was thinking but hoping those brackets might have been okay.

Issue is he doesn't really know or have pics of when it was made so going to have to start off by taking some of the boards off to get an idea if it's a proper job or a bodge job.

Any legs it's trying to half lap the posts & join then to the outside?
