New idea bubbling around in me bonce tonight. Is there anyone getting a new (or possibly new to them) sports/performance car in the near future? If so, would you be interested in doing a sort of diary (like in the mags - running costs, breakdowns etc) to share with other readers? It would be nice to get true running costs for sports cars of various types.

Nice idea. I would. How do you propose the format. On here?

Similar, but formatted better (e.g. running totals/computing cost per mile excluding insurance/petrol etc.).

Ted, I should be picking up a Superlight R next week, so I'd be very happy to do something like this. Could do a side by side comparison with the Cerbera, to see which one costs me more to run.

Ted I've used my Griff 4.0 every day for the past 18 months/20k miles(!!) and kept a record of every expense and every fill up by date and milage (high points being 3250 miles in 13 days round Europe at 27mpg.) Yes I do know its sad but I was interested in the *true* cost of running it in the light of everything I'd read. If you're interested I can mail you the XL charts. It may do me some good as I'm trying to sell the car at the moment and proving it has cost peanuts to run has to be a good thing! Cheers Marco

I could probably do some for of running report, as it'd be quite interesting. I just (well a couple of months ago) brought a LHD 993 Turbo, and have recepts for everything so far (except fuel). So could get something together maybe?

I would budget around £80 in entry fees, £30 insurance, plus running costs to drive there and back, per event. Maybe £200 all in? Add about £20 a year for club membership and championship registration, and about £400 one-off costs for safety overalls and crash helmet. People can do anything from a couple of events a year up to dozens, depending on how much time and money they are prepared to spend on it. You could realistically spend two or three thousand pounds for a season. Cheers, Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

I need to get my eyes tested - I could have sworn that this thread said 'Reader's Wives' at first glance.

I only know this because I sold the guy who runs them some race bike bits honest and don't tell the wife !!!!! Edited by mel on Friday 27th July 14:51

I have an 80,000 mile S1.5 that is used as my everyday transport. I have done a considerable amount of work to it already and this will only continue. As an entry level model for many first time owners it may be useful to track cost. I already have a large amount of history etc if you're interested Ted. Cheers Mark

I'll give this a go. I'm picking up a s/h Westfield at the end of September. The car will mainly be used for trackdays and at weekends. I'm also toying with maybe do a bit of sprinting / hillclimbing later on. Mods are also planned... Edited by zeegroid on Monday 30th July 21:17
