Has anyone used one of these units? Looking at getting one but they all seemed to need to be hardwired to the battery but on some forums I’ve seen they can just be powered off a USB socket? My KTM has a USB socket on the side of its TFT so would just wanna use that but when I look on the website it only shows a cable for powering off the battery?

Depends how many watts the KTM's USB supplies and how much the Carplay unit needs. It should tell you in the KTM manual how much the USB can supply and the manual for the carplay unit how much it will need. If you cant get enough power from the USB port you could always run power directly to the battery and use a relay to make it a switched live feed

I have two Aoocci C3. On my Trident I have used the hardwired solution. I tried that on my BMW R60/7 and the unit kept restarting at random intervals, likely because of a poor earth or a dodgy connection to 12v. As a quick fix I connected it to a switched twin usb socket instead (wired directly to the battery, I just have to remember to switch the usb off at the end of a ride). My phone charges off the other one and it’s working fine like that.

Is it me or has every bike youtuber been paid by these Chinese companies to shill their products? I'm seeing them everywhere.

Agreed! A number of them are REALLY pushing them hard.

In respect of the original question, yes you should be able to do that. I've run dashcams off of a usb bank before without issue. As others have said though, you need to work out how long it'll last.

Adding a power bank seems to me like an extra layer of complexity but do remember that the phone will be working quite hard and will want power. My iPhone an be a bit fussy about which Lightning cables it will charge from. On the way back from the motorbike show at ExCel I got a low battery warning from the phone, displayed on the C3 screen. After a quick stop and wiggle of the cable the phone started charging and I carried on with the journey.

I run one from the USB socket on a Tracer 900, it works perfectly and the kit comes with a cable to plug straight in
