Help finding a projector

I want a 90" screen.

Lens to screen distance is circa 3100mm. Ideally 4k/UHD.

Its going to be installed on a high shelf but I can install it in a hanging position there also.

I guess budget upto £2.5k, however I'm happy to spend less.

The highsense c2 fits the bill from a projection point of view, ideally it needs to have an optical zoom. as i dont want a 150" screen!

any ideas?

You go much bigger than 80" at 3 meters, any reason you don't want a bigger screen?

Yep, i'm only sat around 2.9 M away, I want to be able to see the whole screen properly etc. anywhere from 80-100inch would be fine, although that'd be an upper limit.

Would an ultra short throw projector work ? Depends on the room layout but would stop you needing an optical zoom depending on the distance

Why not go for an 85" TV? More usable and can be cheaper.

unfortunately needs to be long throw due to room layout.

the screen drops down in front of a pair of french doors, I also prefer the look of a projector and don't like having massive screens in the house, thats all the reasons really.

I like a films on a projector, just warmer to watch(IMO).

We are sat around 2.5m from the screen and it is 135" and in no way do we feel we have to "scan" the picture - it just feels properly cinematic. We rarely use it now though, the 65" OLED is the main workhorse unless its a film that lends itselft to scale, Top Gun 2 for example.

For 80 - 100" I'd seriously think about mounting it (a TV) on a board and hingeing it down from the ceiling, or similar, rather than buy a projector. Simply for the black levels. That's the achilies heel of projectors.

It’s got to be a projector due to where it sits and the building shapes, I also prefer the ‘feel’ of a projector setup.

That would take some engineering given how heavy a 100inch TV is!!

My 65! OLED weighs next to nothing. I'm assuming 100" LEDs are heavier? In fact, I'll look it up..

20kg for mine . - Ahh - 1st LED tv I found on Currys at 98" is 55kg. Still doable, but, yes, 50KG is a fair whack - would not stop me though! :-) Far rather a £1300 4K TV than a projector but I get the OPs motivation and reasons.

Have a look at the Benq W5700 ... its a true 4K UD projector which comes in under the cost of say the Epson projectors. https://www.benq.eu/en-uk/projector/cinema/w5700.h...

Based on 3m throw, it will do 100" .... which at your seating distance is bang on for the recommended seating position. If you go 80" or 90" you will immediately regret it and wished you'd gone for 100"

Yes, its pretty wide ... but slightly shallower than some.

Maybe see if you can get a demo at RS with the above ... the reviews are positive.

As always with projectors, as long as you can control the light coming in, you'll probably get a great image.

Can't comment on that particular projector, but I have a BenQ V6050 ultra short throw one which is a fantastic bit of kit, so wouldn't be put of by the manufacturer.

What speaker set up are you going for ? I sit around 2.5m from the screen and have a 100 inch screen, 3 front speakers, 2 side speakers, 2 ceiling speakers and 2 subs, and its absolutely fantastic and makes pretty much every other screen in the house redundant.

Think the speakers are all monitor audio and the subs are Flyne Audio F3's, with a Denon AVC-X3800H amp, and would recommend all of it. I've only ever taken the volume to around 60 (out of 100) and the room is shaking but crystal clear Normal volume is around 47.5.
