Looking for a discreet way to hide a projector in the ceiling....

I've a room where its at 1st fix stage, floor joists are in, head height in the area where the sofa will be is only 1995mm, i'm looking to have a projector hidden in between the floor joists that I can 'pull down' or lower as its going to be a cinema room.

Has anyone got any ideas of bits I could use to make it?

I would find the projector you want first so you have a size to aim for - and allow for cables sticking out.

If your floor joists are in than I suspect it's too late for any motorised recess unless the builders can work around the joist. I looked at options for our media room but the complexity and cost meant I just settled on getting a wooden box built versus something like this.

Do makes sure you measure the size and ensure you have enough clearance for cooling. Even a moderate mid range projector will come in at 40cm wide with 20 cm depth, so add in 10% either side and you need 50 cm width and 25-30cm depth between joists to accommodate an hidden recess.

Also double check than triple check the HDMI cable if running a long run. I'm on my 4th cable, the builders put in two, but both weren't able to deliver 4K reliably over a 15m run. I than had to return a cable I bought for the same reason, and currently seem to have found me that works. Luckily I can access the floor boards above so will move the current cable into the celling once am 100% sure it works.

Whilst doing cabling don't forget about power and CAT6. I should have just asked the builders to run a separate CAT6 cable from the projector box to the media wall and used HDMI over ethernet than faff with long HDMI cable runs.
