Just need a bit of clarification/feedback on this.

Sainsbury's sell meat in different weight categories. which I will call small. medium and large
1.2kg-2kg - £15.70 small
2.1kg-2.8kg - £21.98 medium
2.8kg-3.5kg - £27.48 large

I realise that the weight of each leg can vary and the price reflects this and can go up and down, but I assumed the weight should still stay within the weight category that I ordered.
My question is if I order a small leg and they deliver a medium leg, is that just a different weigh with a corresponding larger price or is that a substitution and I can claim the difference?

My complete guess is that you pay the price of the size that's been delivered, not the price of what you ordered.

I've never done grocery shopping on the Internet. What normally happens when they provide a substitute? Is it the cost of the original that gets charged or the substitute?

They charge the cost of the substitute then refund you the difference between that and what you originally ordered..

Seems to me that you're not able to specify British or New Zealand is a more significant issue.

They charge you the new weight.

If you don’t want that option, turn off substitutions for that item.

If you care that much go to the shop yourself.

This.

If you look at the prices quoted they're just the highest weight in that bracket based on £7.85/kg. You'll just get charged for the weight you receive e.g. 2.3kg will cost you £18.06. The different weight ranges are just so you can choose the best weight range for you and that the people picking your order won't just grab any old size.

I can't see them counting the different weight ranges as different items, they'll all have the same EAN number.

Sainsbury's chickens ARE sold small, medium, and large so are different items.

My point is I am picking the smallest weight bracket and they are just grabbing any old size. If what they pick is in a higher weight category is a that a substitution and the difference in price should be refunded?

Say you order a small chicken and you allow substitutions. They provided a large chicken they will refund the difference as its a substitution.

No, it's the same product just weighing more. You'll pay for the larger weight IF they pick one outside your weight bracket. On my experience we've always had what we've asked for.

If you physically went to the shop and there wasn't one in that bracket what would you do?

It doesn't work like that in store as they don't offer substitutions.

I had similar with tesco a couple of weeks back.

I ordered sub 1kg of beef, they delivered something substantially larger. Cost difference was about £15.

I rang and complained and was told that is what I ordered. After a bit of to and fro asking her to look at the order she conceded and refunded me the difference.

Sounds like you want your cake and eat it.

Order the size you want and turn off substitutions for that item.

That way you get the size you want, or if it’s not available, you won’t.

If you’re happy they pick a bigger size if its not available, let them substitute it, but be prepared to pay for it.

Really don’t understand your problem.

You obviously don't understand how substitutions work on an online/delivery order.
If you order something and it is unavailable, they can replace it with something else. If that other thing is more expensive they will refund you the difference.

Say I ordered a 200g tin of beans at £1. Its unavailable so they substitute it with a 415g tin that costs £1.40. They then refund me the .40p, thats their policy not mine.

I really do understand. You just want something for free.

Thanks for clarifying.

Apologies if I've missed something but haven't you answered your own question?

Just for your clarification since you are quoting Sainsbury’s online substitution price guarantee.

Both weighed items and catch weighed items are excluded .

It doesn’t apply to weighed or pre-weighed items.

Again you don't understand. You don't get it for fee you get refunded the difference between what you ordered and what they supplied..

Yeah the free bit is the extra bit.

I do understand.

As I said abd quoted, the policy doesn’t apply to weighed or pre-weighed packages.

Have a little read of the policy abd excluded items -
