To CSL or not to CSL
Discussion
What do you guys think?
4 weeks ago i picked up a 2003 E46 M3 SMG from a BMW main dealer (A car that they got in for me from another BMW dealer at the other end of the country).
It turns out that this car has not been prepped for sale very well to say the least and at this moment i'm pretty much ready to tell them to shove it where the sun don't shine seeing as it has been back with them for 3 of the 4 weeks of my ownership. Not wanting to completely flake on this dealer i was wondering if I should tell them that i don't want the car back and will shop with them so long as they can either replace it for one with the same spec or find me a CSL. To be honest i don't know if I will ever find my way onto the track with the car but just knowing that I have one of these things will keep me smiling for a very long time and the sound of that exhaust.............Oh yes.
Anyway, Do you think it is worth trading in the (Not as good as Tom Tom) sat nav, cd changer, reclining electric seats, cup holders etc. for a bigger punch in the back and a singing exhaust tone?

I wouldn't even hesitate. From what I've read and been told the standard M3 doesn't even compare to the CSL.
I was lucky enough to drive a CSL on track this summer and it was awesome. A definate future purchase of mine.
Like Dick says - it's a great car both on road and track.
I don't know if there's still any new ones hiding away at Rockingham unsold, but I'll look this weekend.
I took both the M3 (manual and SMG) for a test drive aswell as the CSL (Black and Silver). The M3 was nice the CSL blew me away
I've not taken mine on the track yet, very easy to live with as an everyday car, mine even goes to ASDA's for the weekly shop.
Make sure you get a black CSL, slightly faster
Cheers
Michael

He's right, you know!
Brilliant.
Trouble is If i had a CSL I'd want people to know (Being a bit of a car tart on the quiet) so unless you can convince me otherwise (Feel free) I will probably push for the silver grey as it's easier to see the plastic roof.....How shallow am I? :-)

Plastic? Carbon Fibre please!
I know butI didn't like to say it seeing as it is the buzz word of the milennium Burberry crowd......A bit like the word "Turbo" during the 1980's and GTI in the late 1970's.
Now i know I'm getting old......Where's my mid life chrisis when I need it?
Check out www.bm3w.co.uk for ALL of your CSL questions etc
There's quite a few CSL's for sale on there too - just make sure it's not an ex track demo car.
It's an awesome car and IMHO I rate it above my old 355.

As a new purchase IMHO the CSL was not worth the significant extra cost (went for the standard M3 myself)the standard M3 is still a stunning car. However given the 2nd hand CSLs have now lost so much value if you are in the market for a second hand M3 then the CSL would be my choice. Just my view.
