Had to say goodbye today to our Skye Terrier Lucy. Not quite 10 years old, a suspected brain tumour, she started to lose control of a leg at Christmas, followed by a full blown seizure on New Year's Eve. It's been a slow decline since then, two seizures in one day a couple of weeks ago; she just wasn't herself anymore.
Feisty, troublesome, loving, family dog, she pined whenever anyone, particularly my wife was away, sitting at the front door waiting her return.
She was attacked by Border Collies a couple of times early in life, which resulted in an anxiety in her that meant she would set up against any dog until she'd known them for a few months. As a result she had only a few "doggy" friends and was at times, to be truthful, an embarrassment when out walking, we'd detour sometimes rather than have a confrontation. She'd "protect" our home barking at anyone passing the fence, knew the sound of the Postman's van. But hell, I loved her to bits. She's going to be a massive miss around here. Would have swopped places with her over the last few months if I could.
Gone today, on the third anniversary of my wife's mother dying too.
RIP Darling.

I’m very sorry to hear that and wish you all well. Obviously there’s nothing I could possibly say that would be of significance but please accept kind thoughts from an internet stranger.

Wonderful photos btw.

So very sorry to read this. A beautiful tribute to an obviously much-loved companion.

Lovely pictures too. Lucy was very photogenic.

Thank you.
Had to put something down in print.
Uncontrollable tears at the moment.

Many on here will have been through similar. Some multiple times.

It hurts like hell, but you will get over it.

Eventually the good memories will outweigh the loss.

Post as much as you want. It’s part of the grieving process

Heartbreaking, but, you were in her life, and she was in your life, and nothing will ever change that.

They do become such a huge part of your family and the house doesn’t feel the same when they are gone. We lost ours after 13 years late last year and i still get choked up thinking about him. It’s a shame they have such relatively short lives with us. I really feel for you.

Time moves on, 10 days have passed, used to her not being around, but still struggle to talk about her without a lump in my throat.
The saving grace is that since her first "fit" on NY Eve, her demeaner changed, didn't bark at every dog passing the fence or the sheep in the field next door or the neighbours cat. We knew the end was coming but it was still a shock.
And I'm welling up again...
