Superspeed Escort V6 with ZF 5 speed gearbox.

They also did a Mk1 Escort 2000 GT before Ford introduced the RS2000.

The Blue Cortina is great. I had a chat with the owner back in 2022 when he was at the Shere Hillclimb.

Did your old friend restore it or was he involved in the original build ? As i am sure my mate who owns it would love to be in touch.

Anybody know why Ford didn’t put the 3.0 Essex motor in a cortina ? The 2.3 cologne went in the mk4, so why not…

I have always believed that Fords view was that if you wanted a 3ltr, you bought a Granada.

Trying to find any info on SuperSpeed is exceptionally difficult.
( Ask me how I know ) !
Plus, many of their staff have sadly passed away now.
It would appear that Mike & John Young had a very close relationship with the management at Fords headquarters at Warley in Essex.
In circa April or early May 1972, they “ race prepared “ the 16 new Black Capri 3000Es for the May 28th Wiggins Teape Brands Hatch FordSports Day races. It’s probable that the Capris were shipped from the Ford Halewood assembly plant and straight to SuperSpeeds Ley St. Ilford premises. And once prepped, from there they were transported straight to Brands
The 16 Capris were registered to “ Ford Warley “
In early 1974, when Ford anounced the RS3100 Capri, Jackie Stewart was photographed in London with a Purple Velvet car.
This car was registered to “ Ford Warley “
Stewart was then given this Capri “ as his company car “ he used the car for about six months. It then appeared at Ley St ( presumably for SuperSpeed to sell or SuperSpeed bought it directly from Ford Warley ) A pals Late Dad had his business a few doors down, he saw the Capri and bought it.

I own the ( Only “confirmed” surviving 3000E the Lauda / Bill Stone one and have drawn a TOTAL blank trying to find out more re SuperSpeeds involvement in prepping the 16 cars

Curious to know how the V6 Escort handled, the V6 being a tad heavier than the Kent or Pinto

I seem to recall the Escort fettlers I knew back in the day thought the Pinto was too heavy for really sharp handling, so the Essex was surely a step too far..?

In the late 90s I was involved in the motor trade in Suffolk. We regularly disposed of trade cars at Ipswich Car Auctions and there was a gent called Mike Young who was one of our contacts. I've been aware of this name in connection with Superspeed for many years, but wondered whether it was the same Mike Young (not exactly an uncommon name). Can anyone enlighten me?
