So we are away shortly for two weeks in Cornwall. And swmbo through my daughter has hinted that she would like to do something or go somewhere on her birthday. I am freaking out a little because A im crap at this kind of thing, And B she absolutely deserves it. A completely unselfish woman who always puts others first. But at the same time I know she wouldnt expect anything lavish and over the top.

So we will be staying near Padstow close to the camel trail. And to add to it we have two small woofers.

Afternoon tea in Tintagel at the Camalot Castle Hotel is very nice. Or a walk to St Necterns waterfall is pleasant, with a great cafe at the waterfall.

If you’re staying near Padstow pretty much the entire county can be reached within two hours. As mentioned above Tintagel’s worth a visit, but I’d suggest going a bit further down and parking at the St. Erth park and ride and taking the train into St. Ives. St. Ives itself is a fantastic day of bumbling but the train ride has views to die for.

We did Eden Project for my Mrs’ 40th.
Although Dogs are not allowed inside the biomes I think, only on the gardens

If the weathers Ok, you can’t beat a walk from Padstow along past Tresgirls beach to Hawkers Cove, stopping for a cream tea at Rest a While Tea Garden. The dogs will love the walk and take a half bottle of Sparkling wine for a birthday toast along the way.

God brief don’t take anyone to Tintagel for something “special”, it’s over crowded and God awfully dreary when it rains.
You can take her out on the speedboat thing out of Padstein if she might like that, or pack a picnic, take the dogs and walk out of Padstein past the harbour along the top and around the coast a little bit. Lovely views, doggies can run and pick your picnic location. Might be a touch busy though - it’s a popular route.

Personally though, I’d see what’s on at the Minack. That pretty much blows every other Cornish experience out of the water.

Maybe lunch at Paul Ainsworth at No 6? Top quality restaurant in Padstow and a memorable experience (unless she already eats in a lot of Michelin places).

We've been exercising the cars more and have made monthly trips to Devon & Cornwall.

We joined up as members of Eden - £115 normal entry and £122 for membership. I think both get unlimited entry for a year, but members get closer parking only halfway up the hill, and various discounts. We covered the £7 difference in cost a few time over with the cafe discounts.

Charlestown is nearby.

Minack has annual entry too. Look at their website and see a show?

Tintagel - get there for 10am opening so the car parks are empty.

Falmouth is OK for a bimble and plenty of people with doges.

Newquay - didn't like this place. Seemed like Rhyl-sur-mer.

Truro I quite liked.

Bude was really good as we had good weather when we visited.

There are so many coves that are nice to visit with doggies - Mullion, Coverack, Gunwalloe, Kynance etc. Most of the time if it's a cove it will be a small pretty beach/harbour.

Don't forget that you can do things on your way home. We stopped off at the Minecraft Castle (Castle Drogo) and Killerton House.

I went to Timtagel castle a couple of years ago, the weather in the day was pretty bad which may well have tainted my experience but I found it fairly miserable and I’ve sworn not to go there again.
If someone took me there for my birthday I’d really not be impressed.

Was that Tintagel castle or Camalot castle hotel in Tintagel, 2 completely different places ?

The seal sanctuary is worth a look. Dog friendly too https://sealsanctuary.sealifetrust.org/en/
Port Isaac is nice too, although often busy. We were lucky enough to see the Fishermans Friends singing on the harbour when we went a few years ago.

Bodmin steam railway is a nice day out, book it with a cream tea, you can get off halfway and take the nature trail and pick it up at the end for a return trip. I”m pretty sure dogs are allowed.

I would look for a show at Minack.

Always thought it would be a good venue for the Tempest

No offence to anyone these threads are so silly! just vague and general mentions of various locations in cornwall. look at a road map and get just as much from many of the suggestions of just naming places in cornwall...

OP what sort of special thing does she like?

Good meal out?

One off Experience to be had no where else?

the great out doors? if so how exertious?

the great indoors?

elaborate and you can get some actual useful suggestions rather than a gazetteer of where various PH's have been in cornwall.

St Ives is another that is absolutely lovely until about 11am when it is a crowded horrible mess. Get there early, grab a coffee and a pastry from one of the proper bakeries (not The Cornish bloody Bakery chain) and head down to the harbour. The boat trips from there can also be decent but again, get on an early one. Probably not special enough for a birthday day out but will be a nice morning.

We are just across the border in Devon and will often jump in the car and take the kids and dogs beach hopping in Cornwall. An hour or two at a few different beaches with pasties/pastries in between.

A someone else said, Padstow is fairly central and two weeks is a long time so you should be able to see most of it in that. Hire a couple of bikes (or test your relationship with a tandem) and do the camel trail. Get the ferry over to Rock from Padstow and have a nice meal at the Mariners. Head down to St Michaels Mount, and spend a bit of time in that area on the south coast. Don't go to Newquay. Mawgan Porth is just around the corner from Padstow and is a nice quiet surfers beach to spend a few hours on.

Daymer bay is a good beach walk and the Mariners pub in rock does good food and always has dogs in it.

The Enedoc hotel is dog friendly and also has a good menu.

Have a good time whatever you do.
