I hope to God that our boys aren't doing things like this. It's sickening.

Have you seen them? I thought they weren't due to be released for twenty days yet, to allow the US Govt to appeal if they wish.

Absolutely revolting!

"War on terror", my eye! More likely, recruitment drive for Bin Laden!

The USA should get out, apologise and publically prosecute the perpetrators. Following which, the USA should be called to task for, once again, breaching the Geneva Convention! That's what The USA would insist on if it were another country gloating over the deaths of American kids.

I take it that that's a negative?!

If were not for the Americans I meet as shocked and repulsed as the rest of us I'd pack up and come home.

That's something I suppose!

They just finished sentencing the last of those who had charges filed against them, msnbc.com ran only one story on it, I think. Lindy England or whatever her name was, was sentenced to 3 years prison (but it's military prison, not as soft as those civilian summercamps). I don't think that seems like much, though. I don't know what the others got in their sentencing. Will have to look it up. There was some Reserve Officer in charge at the top of their command, and not enough follow through and oversight on the chain of command. I hope they got some kind of punishment also, but who knows.

These Army personnel apparently were not trained enough and didn't have the strength of character (or morality) and intelligence to be given the responsibilities that they had. Frankly, I think they make it too easy for people to get into the armed forces and that's why we end up with sorry pieces of work like those prison "guards". I didn't look at the pictures (some have been on the news when it first came out), but I think their behavior was just absolutely treasonous in addition to being perverse. They acted like bullies on the playground who had no fear of consequence. What complete pieces of trash. And I don't buy the bullshit that "my boss told me to". Too damn bad. Nobody makes you do something that's wrong. If your boss tells you to do something wrong, better to have to get another job than to participate in what you know isn't right.

No offence to squaddies anywhere but,
Point one:
These guys are young lads from the age of 17ish upward.
We as a society are asking them to go to a foreign country and kill people, if they can't kill them from a long way off then they have to get a bit closer and kill them, if they're up close and personal they might actually have to do it by hand with a knife or a bayonet.
That's what they train for, that's their job and they go war with the intention of doing just that because that's what they do.

Anyone disagree with that statement?

Next point,

We as a society are telling these lads that its ok to kill people but they can't take photos of it.
or
We're all right behind you and the cause you fight for but we don't want to see the results....

Did you ever think why they are taking these pictures?

People have been killing each other since we walked out of the primordial ooze, people have been drawing, painting and photographing this killing since it started, and now we live in the digital age and it's in our faces and on our desktops in the click of a mouse we act all indignant and disgusted.

What do you think these people are doing out there in the name of freedon or religion? tickling each other to death?

If everyone was shown the results of someone mutilated by a glorious cause, maybe they wouldn't be so eager to send our lads overseas to do their dirty work.
Everyone should see these images as we are collectively responsible for them.
