Can you find out why a car was cat D’d?
Discussion
As per title really, a car i “might” be interested in was a cat d write off 25 years. The seller has correctly listed the car as a cat d but doesn’t know why it was recorded, only that it was.
Is there any way i would be able to find out why it was written off, ie damaged or stolen etc?

Unlikely to find any more info if was written off so long ago. The fancy CarVertical checks with their salvage photos are pretty recent innovation but if it's an 'interesting' car then owners forums might have some members that recognise it. Cat D is pretty minor (equivilent of Cat N these days) and i've happily owned a couple examples, may just have been stolen recovered but get it checked out that it's been repaired properly.
