Renngineering Cayman S/E (981)
Discussion
In 2019 I bought a beautifully clean, dry use only, 14000 mile pure white Porsche Cayman.
In the hunt for a car some decisions were made, that fast forward to 2025 I still believe are right.
- Sports Chrono
- PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management)
- PTV (Porsche Torque Vectoring)
- Sports Plus seats with crest
- PDLS (Porsche Dynamic Lighting System)
- Sport Design steering wheel
There is a little more but that’s the greatest hits.

It was kept almost entirely in factory condition for three years and thoroughly cleaned enjoyed. Then COVID hit.
Like many people it got me thinking about life choices and suddenly my Cayman didn’t quite seem “enough”. Shortly after, I bought a Speed Yellow 2018 991.2 Carrera T.
It felt special. The detail, particularly use of accent colours, texture and detail on the interior really impressed me. The engine felt muscular. It lacked noise. Even with the Porsche Sports Exhaust the turbo strangled the sound to the point where the most important part of driving enjoyment to me (the emotional response from noise) really impacted my love for the car.
Added to which, it cost more than double than my 981.

I sold it two months later…
Then called up the chap I sold my old Cayman to and offered to buy it back.
On collection, a decision was made. Neither car hit the spot 100% but the Cayman had the potential to be my Goldilocks car.
A tonne of research was done in to other brands and more specifically, design elements I would take inspiration from. That grew in to the beginnings of Renngineering.
Fast forward to 2025, the car is finished.

Now clearly there are a thousand steps between the start and end and I’ll update over the coming weeks with lots of the changes, how and why.
The bonus - I put a podcast and YouTube channel together where I deep dive it all.
Oh and I decided to build this next… a carbon fibre Porsche 550 Spyder using a Lotus 111 chassis with an aircooled engine. A story for another time.

Just noticed the RS side induction pieces... superb!
Theres a reel with the noise. It’s amazingly similar to a 4RS for obvious reasons. Spine tingling
