Has everyone received a safety recall letter for their FL5 Civic Type R. It relates to a fault with the greasing of the worm wheel gear meshing in the Electronic Power Steering gear box. The DVSA Reference is R/2025/024. The fix is stated to be an inspection and the fitting of a "countermeasure part".

The Safety Recall Notice from Honda is dated 2nd April 2025.

I have read of this issue on other forums but not heard a lot about it on PH.

Yep got my letter too. All booked in for the end of April to have the work done.

Apparently it affects 1.7m vehicles as it's all civics, and certain CR-V and HR-V models.

They need the car for a full day, but as long as it's corrected and fixed it's no big deal for me. I'm a 74 plate Civic Type R FL5 by the way.

And at the more mundane end of the range, my 2018 Civic 1.5 Sport has just had a recall seen to for a potentially faulty fuel pump, a job that took around 2 hours. I never feel bad a bout a manufacturer issuing recalls at their expense - it indicates an honest attitude to their customers, even several years on from sale.

Other countries announced that recall late last year.

Had the recall done at my local Honda Dealership yesterday. Took 6 hours in total, with the replacement steering rack/box done, then all the alignment work after.
No complaints, all done as recall letter suggested.

It does seem that the steering is lighter now, but that may be just my placebo effect as i didn't think i had any steering issues anyway.

I was told that mine wasn't affected when I contacted my dealer, even though I received the letter. They said it was new enough not to be affected. Not absolutely sure that's true, even though it was delivered at the end of March.

A lot of the FL5 Type R's were being held at Bristol before being allowed to be delivered to dealers. They were having the recall done at Bristol. Maybe yours was one that was held there before being released to the dealer but because it still came in VIN batch numbers, you were sent a letter anyway?

I'll probably go with that, not much else I can do if the dealer has told me it's not necessary I guess.

Contact Honda UK and check. If they fixed it before they delivered it to you they shouldn’t have sent a letter.

I’d probably want written evidence it’s been done personally.

I was literally going to check with Honda UK today after reading these posts, when I got home I have had another letter now telling me to disregard the previous one as it was sent in error. Apparently the car was subject to the recall but this was noticed before it was dispatched from Honda's warehouse to the retailer, so no action needed.
Lucky the guy at the dealer suspected, saved me having it done twice! It didn't help that the two letters were a month apart...

I had my steering rack renewed today as part of the recall. I haven't noticed any difference in the steering.

However, I also had the rear view mirror shroud renewed and, at last, the interior of the car is free of rattles. It took ages for me to track down where the rattle was coming from. I was convinced for months that it was in the dashboard, around the infotainment screen. I eventually traced it to the rear view mirror. Brayleys in St Albans have been fantastic at looking after my car for service and warranty and they said that a few Civic's have suffered from rattly rear view mirror shrouds.
