I've just stumbled upon an ex police 19 plate Astra, recognising it as being authorities spec, however it was advertised with just 25,614 miles on the clock... a quick Google of the registration shows the Brightwell auctions listing, stating 115,192 warranted miles.

How do they even think they'll get away with it, is this law related, a civil matter? Who can it even be reported to?!

It'll be being sold by some shady driveway trader who'll "meet you at tescos". They'll be reliant on people not doing due diligence until its too late, and by that time, their burner phone will be switched off.

It's a business that state they've been going since 1970... the car is still advertised

There was that assclown who featured in one of Misha's nurburgring videos with a mileage blocker on his mk8 Golf GTI with 500bhp, did a full lap and added a whole 2 miles to the total.

Utter wker - the car is GT11 CYR, starts the lap on 33,914 miles and finishes on 33,916. Scamming .

It’s easier to clock Police cars as most of them never get MOTed due to exemptions and are serviced in house so don’t have any service history either. Therefore there isn’t any paper trail regarding recorded mileage.

Have a search on YouTube for "Clocked Police cars".

Lots of info on there.

I've noticed cars being advertised with 'headline' wrong milage, when you look closer at the advert you notice the correct milage, often way down in the description. I suspect the 'mistake' is to suck you in. Also see the similar with the age of the car.

This one is definitely clocked - I found the two ads OP references and each has photos of the odometer.

It's advertised now as having two previous owners though, whereas in the auction listing it had one, so potentially the seller has been scammed.

It looks to have been chavved up, I wonder if the trader isn’t aware it’s clocked, as I can’t imagine the trader would chavvify it and then put it up for sale. My bet is the chav did the clocking, and sold to the dealer who hasn’t done their due diligence.

I’m pretty certain this is the car in question.

Where are the original listings? Maybe someone needs to point the current dealer to them.

Different kind of clocking I guess, but one of the well known Indy's for one of my cars has said they see quite a few with mileage limiters in place - i.e. they fool the speedo into thinking you're driving much slower than you really are, and the mileage therefore goes up much slower.

So I guess it is still a thing - albeit one that's moved with technology. Most modern cars will have other mileage readings that will prove the odometer is wrong though.

I doubt much is done in house these days. BTP's go to Halfords, mostly, or so a friend tells me

Years ago, when I traded cars for a while, I'd go to the auctions an buy ex-Police cars. Most of them had incredibly detailed service histories right down to weekly checks of tyre pressures and oil levels. However, if that 'gets lost'...

Still a thing - yes absolutely. PCPs with limited mileage on high end stuff encourage scrotes to do it.

I'd never normally buy a second hand performance car as a result.

Sure I read somewhere that the newer VAG stuff with digital screens can’t be clocked.

A friend has a Bentayga which he had/has the mileage 'locked' so doesn't increase at all - no idea how they do it but baffles me!

I read about a group that got caught a while ago. They were leasing or renting new cars to driving schools at prices well below any proper lease companies. Just before the first MOT the cars were clocked from 200k+ down to 40k and sold on. It was one of the driving instructors that spotted it reported it.

The most common one now is lease cars on the lowest annual mileage allowance for the lowest monthly price, then clocked before hand back to be below the tiny allowance. It's that common I have heard a few openly saying in front of people, that's what they do to get a cheap deal, recommending it as if its savvy consumer advice!
