I tried the search function but couldnt find anything
So ..
We are looking to go away over the xmas period, Tenerife is out as they more or less double the price, we've looked at Egypt & the wife mentioned Dubai, however i'd rather not be flying for 8 hours
Does anyone have any pointers ?
Mid 20's, 6 hours max flying time, Probably AI or HB, Beach.
Two adults & a 10 Yo ?

How about Cape Verdi ? Its always warm all year, December 22c to 27c. We have stayed in Santa Maria on Sal Island a number of times, nice lively town, plenty of bars and restaurants. Lovely beach, water sports, sailing etc.
We recommend this place https://hotelmorabeza.com/ right on the beach, short walk into town.

Thanks folks
Food for thought.
I forgot to mention, Airports of choice are North. So Glasgow, Edinburgh which are 40 mins from us or Newcastle, Manchester
Wife mentioned Cape Verde can be windy, never been so cant comment. Does look a good option though

TUI fly to Sal Island Cape Verde from Glasgow. A few pics to wet your apatite
We have been to Santa Maria Sal three times and only experienced ONE bad windy day.
Do not consider Boa Vista Island, the hotel has been described as a 5* prison camp, nothing to do outside.
Also the RIU Hotels have had some issues food hygiene.

I can't see the attraction of Cape Verde. Very similar to the Canaries but an extra 2-3 hours flying. 4 is bad enough.
I went once and really didnt like it and certainly wouldnt go back. The village of Santa mari can be seen in about 20 minutes and there is nothing else to see or do on the island.
Everyone wants different holidays, some want lots to do places to visit, some want just to chill out on a beach.
We have been all over the world, as we are now late 70`s, we just want to relax in the sun.
We did enjoy Santa Maria, but that was over 6 years ago.
I have to admit with Cape Verdi the flight time is the problem, especially in a TUI budget seat. TUI are using Dreamliner's now, I wonder if its better?
Hi , we have just came back from cape verde , we stayed in hotel morabeza , sal island santa maria , we was tui dreamliner plane and upgraded the seats was sittng at front of plane window seat rows of 2 by 3 by 2 they were like armchairs plenty of room , and bonus of tv in headrests with plenty of films to watch 6 hour flight there from gatwick 5.5 hours home lovely plane
Hotel was right on beach front sea was lovely softest sand ive ever walked on , and coukd swim in sea temp was 24 to 28 all week , very chilled vibe with lovely friendly beach bar , brazil bar whi h was cheap for food and drink and relaxed vibe or the morabeza beach bar whi h was alot newer and a bit pricer , hotel was built in the 60s so was old style rooms but were very clean and authentic style , breakfast was great an ate out everynight in santamaria which is only really 2 streets with plenty of restaurants and all had live music
We mainly soaked up the sun lazing around the pool chilling in the day and explored the town at night , some regulars at hotel who were in there 70s that visit 4 times a year said its like tenerife in the 70s !
We usually holiday in cypus rhodes and kefolonia my misses took a day to adjust as she felt a bit out of her comfort zone as you do get hounded by locals when walking around the town but you soon get used to them
Weather was great and we will definitely go back for some winter sun and if you just want to chill , id recomend hotel morabeza if you prefer the more chilled vibe , plenty of larger all inclusive hotels along the beach , that me and the misses try to avoid
I was abot apprehensive as my dad stayed in boavista in 1 of the large all inclusive hotels and said he wouldnt go back , was ill for 4 days coulldnt swim in sea nd said food was crap
I think santa maria has best swimmi g in sea as bay is alot calma , we didnt notice wind like alot of people mention about cape verde
Definitely worth checking flights to make sure you on dreamliner as that was a gamechanger for us as 6 hours on cramped plane with no tvs would be a nightmare for me
To original poster , i just noticed you have 10 year old i didnt notice a kids club at hotel morabeza the sort you get at large all inclusive hotels but there was penty of families with young children that all looked like they was having a great time , there was crazy golf , archery and 3 pools to choose from , beech ball football horse riding on the beech , jet skis jet boat rides that i must say looked very well run compared to what i usually see else where
Hotel was full but it never felt llike it , plenty of room around the pools an bars , no getting up early here to put towls out , hotel had some entertainment at night that was traditional singers that were very good , we went bed and breakfast , halfboard was available food looked very good

I’ve been to Sal and Boa Vista, both the same sort of place with nothing much to do if you don’t want to leave the hotel
First time was a riu toureg and the next time was the TUI blue for 2 on sal.
Nice enough but the weather can be mixed and it’s always quite windy.
Went to gran caneria for Christmas last year and had much better time, felt safer out of the hotel and more to do.
I wouldn’t go back to Cape Verde as I don’t see the point in flying the extra hour or 2 when the weather isn’t guaranteed in either

I guess for Cape Verde you've either got the AI on Sal or Boa Vista.
Or as we did and organise flights (TAP) & accommodation
We went to Sao Vincente - fairly deserted beach.

and Santa Antao - own pool

Stunning scenary

And our own deserted beach - next stop is the Caribbean.

We thought that it was the ideal Christmas location - will be returning
Great music as well
