We have a Qettle 4 in 1 boiling/filter tap. It’s started to leak in the flexible hose that connects from the boiler to the boiling tap. The leak seems to be coming from where flexible pipe is connected to the joining fixture, so it’s not just a replacement washer or tighten to fix it.

As far as I can tell the flexible hoses aren’t replaceable? Is there any way to rescue this?

But that’ll just make my leaky hose 1m longer won’t it? It’s an extension, not a replacement?

I have no idea how I’d get to the tap internals to replace the hose at that end.

Looks like the hose just unscrews from the bulkead fitting which passes through the casing?

The hose itself is probably crimped onto a barbed fitting.
Probably failed where it's stressed at the top of the barb.

It may be possible to shorten the hose and re-make the joint on to the barb.
But it's probably a pretty standard hose.

According to the Qettle fitting instructions its going to be either a standard 1/2 or 1/4 BSP flexible hose, so take it off and go to BQ/Screwfix and find an equivalent?

Why do you think flexible hoses are not replaceable? You can not repair them - they are intended to be replaced

Obviously when you can access both ends.

I’ve no idea how you access the end inside the tap. Qettle sell loads of spare parts, with instructional videos on how to replace them. But for the cables they only sell extensions, as shared above.

If it's leaking from the crimp that attaches the braided hose to the connector I'd be very cautious of very hot water suddenly being ejected. As others have said it need replacing. If the leak is from the connection between the female and male parts then a tighten or replacement washer mayresolve it - again there may be very hot water present so adequate precautions needed. If there is no way of getting to the other end of the flexi where it joins the tap you are snookered! Still under warranty?

It’s not under warranty, this was actually a second hand replacement. My first one the nut completely seized up and didn’t spin around, so when I undid the nut the cable twisted beyond repair.

Kind of similar situation to what I’m in now.

I’ve turned off the boiling water and drained the tap. Back to just unfiltered hot and cold. Had to get the kettle out of storage.

Page 5 of the installation manual suggests the hoses are just pushed into the tap, which allows them to freely spin.

If thats the case they should pull out. Obviously check this is the case with your specific tap.

Hmm... That suggests there is a push-fit connector (similar to John Guest and others) which is female with a grip ring, with a plain end on the flexi pipe? If this is the case they are not generic flexis and will have to be sourced from the tap supplier/manufacturer. There may also be a dedicated tool to release the grip ring on the connector? I'd be contacting the manufacturer for details.

I've recently retired as a plumber, and I'd just stay with a kettle. maybe I'm too cautious, but I vowed I'd never fit a boiling tap for a customer because I could foresee an issue if a customer was ever scalded.......
C. I used it as instructed
Me. I installed it correctly
Manufacturer. There isn't a problem with these taps, it must have been installed incorrectly.
Court. The manufacturer knows best!
