Soft Top refurb
Discussion
Hi
Can anyone recommend a company to do a soft top refurb. It comes off so can be posted. I tried one place in Southport but their effort was pathetic and expensive.
Or.....how hard can it be...............has anyone tried a DIY repair with an old sewing machine? I have hand stitched mine so I can actually use it................but driving in to work today it feels like it might suddenly take off and fly away so I definitely need a more robust repair.
I have looked at replacing the roof but at £1800 (£1200 on ebay second hand) I don't think that is a viable option!

I don't know if they do postal stuff but I have used this company a few times and they have been excellent:

Old school so no website as such but worth a phone call. They were mentioned on this thread waaaaaay back but they are still around:

What car is it for?
BAS international supply many of the UKs trimmers and are as cheap as a quality new roof gets if you buy direct. They fit too, they were a lot cheaper than anyone else for my XKR and luckily for me very conveniently located.
My experience is that once the inner layer is punctured in any way you're screwed beyond temporary gaffer tape level bodges, any stitching is likely to make things (much) worse. The guy at BAS explained that the fabric layer is really just cosmetic, it's the non porous rubber layer underneath that provides all the waterproofing.

Came here to mention BAS as well.
Haven't used them yet - earliest they've been able to fit me in is the second week of June - but impressed with the service so far. They even kindly sent me out a couple of samples as Mrs T has suggested I go for a different colour hood.
986 Boxster hood with an upgraded glass screen is £992 fitted.

You can sometimes get away with it, and avoid puncturing any inner layers, by using a curved needle.Worked absolutely fine on a clean 2" cut someone kindly left in the hood of one of mine.
