I'm after a dirty dozen style military field watch (36mm-38mm), preferably with the small seconds on the dial, and £500 or less.

Some examples, Smiths

The Vertex is gorgeous, but out of my price range

Anything else I should be looking at? And I know Vertex have a bronze version, does anyone else do a bronze one?

P.S. No Chinese brands please.

Baltany D12. Will be less than £100 off AliExpress.
ETA your 'no Chinese' edit came after I posted laugh I'm still leaving my suggestion here.

Ha ha, no problem. I'm usually vehemently against aliexpress crap, but for this I guess unless I want an original, everything is a 'homage'. So I'm going to break my own rule and go for a 'homage'

Looking at Baltany, they don't look too bad. And they do a bronze one too!

So they have a quartz one, a Seagull automatic, and the bronze is a manually wound Seagull. Not sure which movement would be best.

Probably doesn’t meet the brief, but personally I really like this: https://www.creationwatches.com/products/hamilton-...

Ignoring the brief almost entirely... I do think Timex is doing some very handsome field-style watches these days, e.g.:

They even do a titanium cased one.

Yes, not small seconds, 40mm (though the Ti I am thinking of is 38mm).
