With the announcement today giving a launch date of June 5th and preorders available from the 9th April I'm tempted to pick one up.

I love that the preorders are only available to Switch owners, hopefully that will stop the scalpers some what. I'm not a current owner and haven't had a Nintendo console since the Wii many years ago, hopefully they launch a new monkey ball as I used to love that.

We have three switches in our house so I’d hope that qualifies for a pre order but even so I don’t think I’ll be rushing into it. Still plenty life in the existing switch for casual gaming so I think I’ll hold off for the initial hype to die down.

I liked what I saw. Interested to see how easy it will be to have the switch keep going in the same house as a switch 2.

Suspect we might not have played enough to qualify for a pre order, but would do it if selected.

$80 games is a big worry when that will inevitably translate to £80, and being Nintendo games they will never go on sale eother

Really want one of these.
It's going to be a pain in the arse as usual.

Not massively impressed on inintendo gatekeeping pre orders behind min 2 years sub to their online service and min 50 hours played on the machine.

So I can't order from them at all even though I've had my switch for years just don't play online.

Hopefully can get a pre order somewhere reputable on Tuesday.

Is there a good reason why they ditched oled? Or just giving themselves an opportunity for a more expensive model later?

Argos are staging their pre-orders today, managed to pick one up just now when it just came back into stock.

I didn't even know this was a thing until two days ago, the joys of having two gaming sons.

Cost would be a reason, keeps the BoM down for the first tranche. It's already expensive as it is, and as the screen is now larger and higher resolution, they wouldn't have been able to use the original Switch's OLED panel.

And yes, it does give them the ability to launch the midlife refresh.

I have an OLED Switch but won't be jumping on this one straight away (I got an original Switch at launch). Just seems very expensive and Mario Kart and Donkey Kong are the only two games I would want.

In fact I am probably the perfect customer for the OLED refresh of this in 2028 or whatever it will be.

I do wonder if the high price, console and games, plus the perceived lack of innovation, may count against it. I just can't see it being the same disruptor as the Switch was when it came out.

I was hoping they may have added some cloud gaming support, geforce now or game pass but just looks like standard Nintendo fayre.

I'm so sick of this, pre orders aren't live till Tuesday the 8th. But I've seen smyths, and now Argos getting told they did them today and sold out.

I'm so sick of everything being a huge FOMO and a race to buy anything, and now it's before the official street date too.

The 8th is only when Nintendo open preorders direct from them. They've done it so that everyone has a chance to read the email and decide if they want it or not. Designed to be fair. There's no restrictions on other retailers and those aren't taking stock from Nintendo pre orders. They've got loads of stock, that's why it's taken so long to get a date. They don't want scalpers and on release day there's a fair chance you'll be able to walk into a retailer and buy it.

After all that amazon invite came through this morning, I got the switch without Mario cart as was the option available.

Hopefully will all be fine come June.

Still think it's daft pre orders can start 4 days before the official sale date.

I think there's some misunderstanding about this. There's no 'official sale date' other than June 5 (for most countries). The 8 April pre-order data is only for Nintendo store and was only ever intended for the Nintendo store. The embargo for other retailers publishing any information at all was 1 hour after the Nintendo direct and they were free to take pre-orders as they saw fit. Nintendo just want to make a show for their 'big spenders' and notable social media fans I'm sure.

Looks really good, still surprised they called it the Switch 2, but it looks much more grown up. I'm not the most technological entity to grace the planet, but if I sold my existing Switch, would I still be able to re-download all the digital games I had onto the new one? Also, if I've got physical copies will they play on the 2?

Some will play on the 2, probably most but they haven't come out with a definitive list. There are some games on the original that use some IR sensor that doesn't exist in the new one.

I didn't know the controllers had the optical sensor to use them as a mouse smile .
