PSA and for discussion.

I know it's 1st April, but the letter's dated 28th March...

My car is a 997.1 GT3 Clubsport, fitted with the Carrera GT, fixed back, carbon buckets. Seats have no airbags fitted but on the Clubsport cars with these fitted, there are airbags in the lower doors (hence the very handy, lidded door bins are deleted). I can;t see how this applies to my specific car.

It is relevant, I guess, to those with the later style, folding buckets, which do have airbags built into the seat side bolsters. I understand this will affect later Cayman and 911 GT models, so useful for all to know about, in case your car's ownership is no longer on the OPC radar.

I received the same letter this morning. Unthreading my 3-point seatbelt every time i use the 6-point harness is a non-starter really. I'll look for a cable-tie solution to keep the belt out of the way.

Can’t you just plug it in round the back of the seat when you’re wearing harnesses? That’s what I’ve been doing for years to stop it bonging.

I have a dummy seatbelt clip in the centre console for that purpose, but I don't think this is the issue, but rather than the un-used seatbelts (on certain types of bucket seat) get in the way of the airbags.

Yep. Precisely.

Normal legal arse-covering - as they say there has been an incident or discovery where this was a factor. So they are getting out in front of it. Not like this system hasn't been in place for years

Same letter and I just thought it would be a simple case of wrapping it round the back of the seat and plugging it in ...... Or am I oversimplifying it ?

Yes I know that’s the normal thing for you track junkies to do, but I’m suggesting that by pulling the belt round the back of the seat and plugging it in, that it will stop the bonging AND allow the airbags to deploy correctly, as the belt is no longer hanging down the b-pillar.

Was just a thought smile

hehe One step ahead of me and Porsche GmbH.

It's such an obscurely worded letter, as to not clearly communicate the precises issue and solution, in two whole pages of screed.

Wow!!

Will be interesting to see what my CS turns up with!

What a complete ball ache that will be if you have to use harnesses all the time if you have a CS spec car!!

Just realised that’s on the GT3….

That warning only appears once. You have to completely back out of the configurator and re-enter it to get it to pop up again.

If they really do arrive without a regular seatbelt that’s going to seriously effect people’s decision to go CS spec or not, I would have thought….

It doesn't do that in Switzerland. Last time I looked it was illegal to drive with the six point harness on the road here (or at least with these harnesses - something to do with the unfastening method in case of accident I believe)

Thought that also - so then wonder if there is a change in the harness fastening mechanism to meet legislation.

Ferrari and Lambo also delete 3point seat-belt if you select their respective harness options - so it not new.

If it's a problem not being used and hanging down the B pillar then behind the seat and plugged in should be fine then.

I emailed Reading this afternoon for the attention of Adam Dauncey explaining the re-routing of the three point belt behind the seat to stop the "bonging" ... I'm awaiting a reply.

I'll post any reply ... I certainly won't be unscrewing my three point belt ...

I don’t know why they couldn’t just suggest that the 3-point belt and harness must be worn together. Surely that’s the easiest and safest solution?

Should I bring all my shoes too?

Asking for a friend.

Fastened with a new bolt hehe how very Porsche. I don't understand how this won't affect every clubsport since the 996.2 as they've all had side airbags fitted haven't they?

Unless your airbags are sitting in your loft like mine!

Anyway, if you unfasten the seat bolt for the three point belt there's another bolt holding it at the top on the adjuster, what are they suggesting-leaving it swinging about to brain you? I only refitted my three points this last winter as they've been out of the car for years-mine certainly didn't fully retract onto the spool when undone from the seat mounting...
