Steering rack issue still as a issue
Discussion
Hi , i thought my steering rack issues were over today however my wife noticed on full lock offside inner tyre slightly catching and rubbing .
It was a lot better than their first two attempts but the issue is still here so this is what i have at the moment ...When in a straight line on the motorway steering wheel is slightly to the right not by a lot but enough to notice it ,secondly i have done a steering wheel lock to lock left then right now if i am right left and right would be a mirror image if equal ..I put a piece of board on my lap just under the steering wheel and turned right to full lock and marked the notch on wheel did the same left full lock and left full lock fell shy of the first mark by a good 50mm i know its a crude way of checking but woukd i be correct in saying both notches should have lined up ...
I believe the full circle is 2.4 so 1.2 each turn but it seems one side i 1.2 and the other 1.0 or 1,1 hope that makes sense ....Would appreciate anyone who could help as this is not going back to the original garage ...Thanks

Hi it does look like its 100% not centralised ...I know i am not going to get anywhere when i go back in the morning and to be honest what sort of garage lets the car go when its not finished ..They have cost me £100 in tracking costs just to highlight their incompetence in being able to sort it..They had no method or procedure on how to do it ...I am now having to search for another garage who could do it ,i presume the centralising is done with the rack on the car so the hard work as been done ...Just need someone who knows how to do it ....

TBH centring the rack is mechanics 101, anywhere should be able to do it in their sleep.den9112 said:
Managed to drop it off at a local recomended garage , they are going to have a look at ….Not sure of my next step with the original garage that installed the rack but they will found out when they open I am not happy
As they've had several attempts to fix it & failed, if the latest garage sorts it get them to do a report & then you sue the original garage for the costs of the rectifying garage?Update on the problem , I put a shout out on my local village FB group for any local garage recommendations and one company stood out so I decided to try to see if they would help which the t did ….Car was not booked in but after explaining the situation they said leave it with them 24 hrs later they had fixed the issue steering rack was not centred …£180 inc tracking …I have now found a local garage that I will in the future be using…I could tell the difference as soon as starting driving it ….

Doesn't get much more basic than that.Be interesting to know what the incompetents have to say for themselves.
