Sony remotes

Help please. We've just bought a Sony TV to replace a malfunctioning Panasonic. It's very nice, but I'm confused by the two remotes. I've used the one - remote A - with fewer buttons which seems to be primarily for catch up and streaming. I can get live tv on it but as there's no coloured buttons or subtitle button I need to use the more old style remote too - remote B . I was out when the tv was installed and my OH remembers remote B working fine - but I can't get it to do so .

I've tried turning on TV with remote B , using coloured buttons etc but noting. Only remote A works .

I'm obviously missing obvious something which anybody under 10 would spot immediately but help - how do I get remote B to work? TIA

Thanks - but as it's brand new , the batteries are fine and it worked when delivered and set up on Saturday . My OH cant remember how it worked - serves me right for watching racing cars at Donington. I'll call in at the shop tomorrow.
