Hello all,

I am currently planning a roadtrip around northern British Columbia, the Yukon and Alaska. The car in question is an e34 525i that I have owned for the last 5 years, which is in moderate condition - having spent a small fortune on it last year.

Complications to the matter are that I do not live in Canada any more so I will not have eyes on my car until I get there. As it stands it is currently slumbering away in a storage garage near Vancouver, so I expect it's still in moderate condition. My primary concern is not that it may break down (I fully expect various things to go wrong) but rather the scarcity of parts as I close in to the north pole. To that end, I figured the best solution would be to bring the most common culprits out with me in case I need to do some sort of roadside fix.

So far I have concluded that a fuel pump would be a good shout, and I have the following questions for anyone with the specific knowledge to help.

1. Is the fuel pump for a north american 1992 525i (M5B25) the same as a European one? If I order one from a UK parts supplier and bring it with me, will that work?

2. Are there any other parts that you think are worth throwing in a suitcase and bringing out?

I know you ask for specific knowledge & I don't possess it, but I do know where to get the answer to your first question.

REALOEM.COM

Put in the details of your car & use both US/EU models in the drop downs & you will get the respective part numbers.

Based on my old E34 525i days, I'd be carrying coils and a lot of engine oil.

Based on losing 2 coil packs on 2 different BMWs, they would be on my list also.

Thank you all, that is very informative.

I don't know how I've never come across real.oem before...every day and all that!
