Hi all

Hyundai Santa Fe 2005 , 2.4 petrol 4 cylinder, has 55,000 miles. Good work horse.

Just went to clean maf following hesitation on accelerating & noticed a lot of oil coming from the cylinder head, see pic. I need to get a socket from work tomorrow to remove the top plastic cover and get a better look, any first opinions if this needs cylinder head gasket replaced? Some oil landed on top of rad you can see in the pic

Cheers

Just a guess from that pic and what you say.

You mention nothing about any symptoms of a cylinder head gasket failure such as loss of coolant, overheating, oil in water, water in oil.

Do you have any of these?

If not then most likely a rocker cover gasket or similar leak.

Hopefully just a rocker cover gasket then as the oil seems good , thanks for reply👍

from the pic it looks more like the paint on the rocker cover flaking off. Certainly no where near the head gasket.

That. Sometimes rocker cover gaskets fail because the crankcase is pressurising due to a problem with the crankcase ventilation system.

The head gasket will be about 8 inches lower

Looks like a bit of oil seepage from the RCG - nothing overly concerning
