I'm heading up to Lichfield from Suffolk on Monday and should be reaching the point where the M6 and M6 Toll diverge at about 10.30am. Is it worth paying for the toll road and how much time is it likely to save me? Ta!

I'd say it would save you zero time at that time of day. M6, M42 for about 2 minutes and then off towards the Belfry.

FiL is near Litchfield, we're in Warwickshire. We take the toll on the way there, and A38/A446 (past the Belfry) on the way home.

As above, there's very little in it, and the toll is bloody expensive.

We were banned from using the toll , company asked for a discount on price for the amount of company vechicles that used it , they said no , company said use m6 only .
I’d carry on up m42 to jct 10 , then go in and get a greggs bacon roll / coffee ( think about £3.55 ) then use a5 upto a38 .

Always worth a quick glance at nav that has traffic updates first just in case of serious holdups but usually there is very little in it.

I like using the toll road even if there are no hold ups on the motorway. The emptiness and lack of other traffic means, for a brief time, you get take a breath and relax during your journey before the general public inevitably get in the way again.

M6 always looks jammed up on Google Maps but is usually OK. Just glide past in lane 1 whilst everyone else is stuck in the "fast" lane.

Be aware that they also charge based on the physical vehicle dimensions rather than how your vehicle is registered. I was caught out in my VW Caravelle over New Year. On questioning it, they said that they have cameras that measure the side profile of the vehicle and charge base on that.

This. It is often mid-way for me, and saves another stop. Saves time and a couple of cups of coffee.

I use the toll twice a day every day, the M6 is full of clueless, terrible drivers and the toll gives me 20 mins of peace. Constant speed limit changes and I think a lot of it is permanent 60mph now.
Even late at night and the early hours il still take the toll.

+1

Life is too short to even contemplate not taking the troll, anytime, any day of the year.

I blame the existence of this thread on Brexit. We used to have an Empire FFS.

M6 toll is worth the asking price just for the barrier grand prix.

You eye up some s4, type R or 440i while in the queue, give a nod, and then go for it when the barrier lifts. For some reason I find M or RS drivers don't, presumably either because of fuel costs, trying to stay inconspicuous because they've just nicked it, or they're sitting on 9 points already.

The M6 toll is nearly 3 miles longer than the M6 so using the toll you're paying Australians to travel further than not paying on the M6.

Never makes sense to me.

I live in Tamworth and work in Lichfield.

From the M6, where it meets the Toll join the M42 instead. Come off at J9 and take the A446 signed Lichfield. That takes you up to the A38 which will take you straight into Lichfield.

If you set your Nav to avoid Tolls I'm pretty sure that's the way it'll take you. The Toll may save you 2 or 3 mins but its very expensive and IMO only worth it if you do the full length.

Though expensive, I find the M6 Toll an utter joy to use.

Our office is in WV12 and if I'm travelling NE I'll always use the M6T to get to the A38 (toll costs reimbursed through the company). It's fast, well surfaced, and lane discipline is great.
