My son has secured a Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship with the University of Sheffields 'Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre'. It seems to be quite highly thought of in its industry. Anyone got any experience with them?

Certainly they have close links to the "best" engineering companies in the UK like Rolls Royce Plc. And are very well thought of..

Yes, well regarded. Is he now looking for an employer?

He previously passed the AMRC interview for them to accept him for training, and he has just passed an interview with an employer to secure his apprenticeship.

I hear good things about AMRC and we are obviously pleased to bits for him, but I have no personal knowledge of AMRC or what his training will entail. He surely knows more than me but being a teenager he doesn't always enlighten me smile

It's a very well run environment, they don't suffer bad behaviour from apprentices and tend to engage them into decent jobs with respected employers.
I've previously appointed 5 apprentices through their scheme and 3 at least went onto professional careers as a result.

My lad has been there a few weeks now and loves it. They are been given engine components such as gearboxes & pumps etc to strip down to see how they work, or are given faulty ones to strip to find the problem. it's a 3 year apprenticeship and he's at AMRC for the first 6 months ,and then starts at his work placement.

Whilst most are around his age (18) there are a few mature apprentices (one is 35) who's employers have sent them to gain skills.
