Recently I became suddenly more deaf and went to see my GP. Any other symptoms? Dizziness, occasional vertigo, worse tinnitus and phantom smells. GP sent me to see the ENT Dept at hospital. The doctor was interested in everything except the phantom smells.

"That's Covid."
"I didn't have Covud."
"Everyone had Covid."

Yes, I should have quizzed him, but I didn't. Everyone was exposed to some Covid, even a teeny bit? No idea what he meant. Was it a personal crusade by one doctor or is it recognised medical practice to now consider that everyone had Covid to some degree?

I can well imagine that most people have it's ubiquitous.

I should think pretty much everyone had it but I haven't to my knowledge. My gf had it last year, sweating buckets next to me in bed insisting it's not covid. It was and somehow I ducked it according to the tests. Maybe I already had it without knowing its been a strange one.

Given how fast covid spread and that about 40% of people have covid with no symptoms I think it's very short sighted to be sure you've never had it.

Many people / most people will have been exposed to / caught Covid at some point.
A significant number of people will have been asymptomatic.
What your Doctor is describing is a symptom though?

Haven't had a dose of the flu for 12 years, that particular one was a real belter mind, wifey and i both came to conclusion one or both of us wouldn't survive it.

No not everyone had the recently rebranded seasonal flu.

My GP's worry was early dementia and was ruling things out. The ENT doctor was busy dismissing the dementia suggestion by dismissing the phantom smells symptom as Covid related. He was fine, he wasn't dismissive generally, he just totally disagreed with my GP.

Presumably, agile minds are researching the different effects of Covid on different people, so it will emerge in time whether or not everyone had it, even without knowing. I just wondered what the view was on here.

Loss of olfactory acuity or dysfunction of smell are early warning signs for some types of dementia, so Covid is probably a red herring here.

I think the symptoms are that varied that we have probably all had a dose no matter how mild. Ever coughed, sneezed, had a headache over the last few years = Covid.

I have tested every time I had a sniffle. No COVID ever.

I had it at least once, and so did my partner (probably more like 3 times in her case). We never caught it off each other though.

I am no conspiracist but we’ve both had COVID 3 times and based on symptoms it has only been the 3 times we’ve tested positive:

First time we both fell ill together, (Christmas Day 2020 - that was annnoying)
Second time we managed to get away for a cancelled 2020 break in June 2022 and my wife fell ill a day or two after coming back. Thought I’d dodged it but 2 days later I came down with it
Third time, Christmas 2023, I fell ill a few days before so our families cancelled our Christmas due to elderly vulnerable members then on 27th my wife started testing positive

Clearly the first time we both caught it from the same source. The second time she caught it and we were in the same space so I caught it from her. The third time I caught it and then she caught it from me.

We have had two sets of families members where one was testing positive and ill but the other was fine. In one case the second time they both tested positive it but in another case one member still hasn’t fallen ill or tested positive.

I think everyone I know has had it at some point and one has to think that those who don’t fall ill have contracted it but their bodies have fought it off, (quickly), so it seems quite likely that in some way everyone has had it. IANAD

Apparently it does make you short sighted.

It sounds like a medic talking testes.

Yeah but the tests don’t work with all strains

I’m certain I never had in that whole 2 year period. I was fit as a fiddle the entire time. But I did get ill this Christmas and lost sense of taste so maybe that was it, if so the first time I’ve had it.

I new I had it as it felt exactly like the jab side effects. Serious man flu, cold shakes, then burning up.

It's quite a distinctive feeling IME. Odd taste in the mouth and a feeling of having a band round one's head. I've had it several times.

If you had the jabs it wasn't covid, per Joe Biden "You’re not going to get COVID if you have these vaccinations".

I would guess that over 99% of those aged 5-100 have had covid in some shape or form by now. The really unlucky ones died from it, others were made seriously ill, most just had “flu-like” symptoms, others just a cold, and a few didn’t know that they had got it at all. It is well on the way to becoming something that the majority need not be bothered about, but those with health challenges, particularly respiratory issues, still need to be careful and seek help from the medical profession.
I read something the other day that was hinting that the usual annual flu jab could contain a covid element in the next year or so.
