Hi all,

After a little guidance.

My car has actually just passed its MOT but it was a bit iffy on emissions and I want to be better prepared for next year.

It's a 92 1.6 NA. My understanding is that it should be tested as an import and not a UK car but despite talking with the MOT tester about this beforehand, he tested it against UK MX5 emissions. It did ultimately pass but it was very close. I know the previous owner had trouble with this last year too. I have read a little about this online and many seem to say that their V5 states the appropriate emissions targets on their V5. My V5 has nothing for emissions values and in fact the car model itself is missing. It's basically just says it's a mazda.

I seem to remember there was a document that some people had circulated that was intended to be shown to MOT testers to guide them to the right legislation on this. I cannot now find that but it would be useful.

But does my V5 also need updating with at least a model designation and emissions figures?

I had a similar argument with a tester and had to go elsewhere in the end, i contacted dvsa and they sent me a good email with a description of how it should have been tested.Took it somewhere else and explained this beforehand and it went through easily.
I found this online which helped, i cant answer how they get their info for testing though, if the computer populates the info for them etc.
They should refer to the flow chart really and it explains clearly what to do but most test it as an MX5.

Fantastic, thank you. I'll digest this a little and see if I can sort this out before this time next year. Approaching DVSA sounds like a good idea too. Much appreciated.
