Your oldest / first watch
Discussion
I was recently at my parent's house where my mother opened a box of things from my childhood. Inside I found a Casio W59, without a strap and and Animal W001 Complete with a very work MBUK velcro strap.
I remember getting both of these, my dad took me to Argos in Croydon to get the Casio in 1989 and they got me the Animal Watch from Evans Cycles in Croydon in perhaps 1996.
The Animal had a couple of markers floating inside it and both were flat. A little bit of work later on in the week and they were repaired and both fully working! I've been wearing them both since.
The Animal was replaced by a Seiko Kinetic 5M63-OA80 (another present from my parents) which I still wear to this day.
Has anyone else still got their first watch / watches?

Would that be an mbuk strap? I wonder how rare they are now!I remember getting both of these, my dad took me to Argos in Croydon to get the Casio in 1989 and they got me the Animal Watch from Evans Cycles in Croydon in perhaps 1996.

I hope you're sitting comfortably as this may be a long post,
So some 41 years ago a young T6 vanman .... well you may actually say BMX Burner BikeBoy ... for a T6 van is a long way into the future.
BMX Burner BikeBoy had casually paroosed the Argos & Shoppers World catalogues and having identified a fine watch ... began his quest to save for this wrist piece ...
Such was his want for this wrist piece that you could almost call it a 'grail' watch for BMX Burner BikeBoy,
Weeks past and it was "time" ... get it see what I did there
.... for BMX Burner BikeBoy to dominate the piggybank .....
Picture the scene .. BMX Burner BikeBoy hammer in hand and shards of porcelain all around counting all his hard earned paper-round tips, .... And they were hard earned as opposed to his ba***rd brother who's round only consisted on our housing estate, BMX Burner BikeBoy's consisted of half the lower side of the whole town :crying:
BMX Burner BikeBoy with pockets a jingleing headed for his AD of choice.
BMX Burner BikeBoy was soooooooooo pleased .. he had his 'grail' watch and nothing would part the pair .....
It's alarm would wake BMX Burner BikeBoy in the morning,
BMX Burner BikeBoy would gaze at it knowning it's hidden powers during loooooooooooooong boring lessons of double geography,
And most of all it would keep him amused during that period of time between coming home from his paper-round and tea being on the table ....
But one fateful day BMX Burner BikeBoy was playing football with some friends ...... I say friends but ......
One boy wasn't a friend as ..... having placed his wrist piece of many talents on his jumper/goal post to protect it from damage.
There was a thief amongst BMX Burner BikeBoy's close nit group and due to both Bodie&Doyle and Jim Rockford being unavailable the thief escaped un-apprehended.
41 years later and BMX Burner BikeBoy has grown into a bitter spiteful driver bearing down on unsuspecting lane 2 & 3 hoggers with his van, Sportline kit & 20" like a modern day Duel .... Oh how I wish the thief was Dennis Weaver.
But like a prescription of Ramipril ... calmness has fallen into T6 vanman's heart as he has found his first love again on line and made a purchase
Behold ... all €170

A few years ago i had all my watches stolen in a burglary which means all my watches are now at most about 8 years old.
I've been looking for one specific model storm watch that I absolutely loved but have never seen another in all this time.
Sad times. My friend had 2 Storm watches in the 90's and they were very cool.I've been looking for one specific model storm watch that I absolutely loved but have never seen another in all this time.

Which Storm models out of interest, I collected them back in the day, well when I say collected I had about 4 :-) The Lexo limited edition being one and then perhaps the Navigator with about three or four dials, I can't remember the other ones.I've been looking for one specific model storm watch that i absolutely loved but have never seen another in all this time.
Most of my old watches were not worthy of keeping, my oldest is probably my Rolex Explorer at about 12 years.
I have a vague memory of my father’s Bulova but I was regaled frequently of why he purchased it, he simply couldn’t afford the Omega Speedmaster moon watch at the time. A nice jog to the memory there. As for myself I had an adored F1 Tag watch, which I sold to my friend and he still has. The thrill of owning that watch when I was very young (18-20ish IIRC) set my watch appreciation and collecting habit there and then. Some years later I remember being so pleased to have the money to go and buy another after seeing an advert for an orange Tag F1 Chrono. The cost was £550. It’s now the oldest watch in my collection and I absolutely love it.
I don’t remember what make or model, but I remember an orange faced watch with fantastic lume. I used to love loading up the lume with a torch and wondering at its brightness under the covers in bed.
I suspect it was highly radioactive and may explain why I’m bald as a billiard ball.

Got this for my 5th birthday (a very long time ago), it had a rainbow striped fabric strap (long gone). I remember asking my parents if it was ‘a real watch’ as I opened it.

That's brilliant!I worked all summer in a fish and chip shop to save up for a Timex digital which cost £19. Long since gone but this photo (taken with a potato) is of a very similar design.

First decent watch I bought was the Tag Heuer 2000 chrono not long after I started for British Telcom in 1988. It was followed shortly afterwards by the black F1 which I wore daily at work for about 5 or 6 years. I still have them and both are still going strong although the F1 is showing its age with quite a few scuffs.
Cant remember what I had before them but most likely was a Casio or such like.

Given to me by 404 Snr when I started Grammar School in 1967.
I wore out the original strap and replaced it with a stainless bracelet for many years.
Gave it a new leather strap about five years ago.
It's a little battle scarred, worn plating and nicks in the crystal etc; but it keeps decent time.
It was Dad's own watch, not one he bought specifically for me. For that reason alone I will never part with it.
It's left in my Will to my granddaughter.

That is an interesting design; is that a roulette date wheel too?I wore out the original strap and replaced it with a stainless bracelet for many years.

Guessing it's a tad on the small side by today's standards, 34mm?
I'd buy that as 36mm dia tomorrow.

MuDu was never officially imported to UK owing to punitive taxes on "luxury" goods, they were all smuggled (without straps or boxes) and sold on the black market. Despite that more went to UK than anywhere else!
You're right, it's very small and rather dainty by modern standards, which is probably why my granddaughter likes it. For contrast here it is posing with my Seiko BFK daily beater.
