I may pick up a car later this week and bring it home . Not convinced we will keep it so don't want to add it to my policy right away .

Has anyone used one of the many temp car insurance companies on line . I actually only need cover for 2 hours

Who have you used ?

Thanks

I’ve used tempcover before. It was easy, no problems but never had to claim.

Your current insurer may be willing to add a ‘temporary additional vehicle’ for a day

Cuvva an option too

I’ve used Cuvva to collect cars in the past, seems to work out cheaper than insuring for the day.

The only thing to be wary of is that most won’t cover modified cars.

I have used Cuvva too - they have an app, making the whole thing really easy.

RAC...

Usually works out about £25 per day, not the cheapest but I've found the process to be one of the easiest.

Talk to your current insurer they may let you add it to your policy for a week or so.

Used Cuvva too, was very easy through their app, think I took 2 hours cover to drive a car home.

Too risky. Why not take out a separate policy, monthly payments, and cancel when you decide either way. Taking out an insurance policy just to get it home and leaving it parked up uninsured is too risky in my view, unless you plan on getting rid of it within the insurance cover period.

I think it depends what you are buying or driving here.
In my case it was an R53 Mini I paid about £1000 for if I remember correctly.

Insured for a couple of hours, drove it home and put it on my drive and that was that. Obviously I wouldn’t leave it on a road uninsured and may not do it with something high valued but a low value car is fine on my risk/reward balances.

Surely under Continuous Insurance Enforcement it will need some sort of longer-term insurance unless you plan to SORN it as soon as you get home?

Used Dayinsure myself (insured by Aviva), 3 days cover came to £38.99. This was in ‘22 - thought it was reasonable enough.

In my case, almost every car I've bought privately I've used RAC temporary cover. I'm not insuring a car I may not be coming home in plus with RAC you can arrange cover 24/7 so handy when you're stood in rural Wales on a Sunday evening, 500 miles from home. Once home, I then either change my vehicle on my current policy or start a new one or yes, park the car in the garage, declare it SORN until I'm ready to start using it then tax and insure it.
