My elderly parents have an Essati roller garage door. It's stopped rolling. The motor is still working, but it's not turning anything, so the door not opening/closing. I have not yet been to look at it yet, as I am a distance away, so I'm seeking this help blind as it were, based on the symptoms my dad has explained. He said it's still within 10 year guarantee, but Google tells me this company are no more, so I don't think he will get far.

So if anyone has experienced similar issues, did you manage to fix it and how? I will try and get there in a few days, but better to pre-armed with things to investigate.

The door was originally stuck open, but with some wiggling, they have managed to pull it down manually.

Thanks

It will have jumped the tracks. Happened to me, and had to use the manual winder (as supplied) to wind up. Door off, job. Respool the door and reattach. Working fine again 5 years later.

OK thanks. Relatively straight forward to do? I'm going to see it for myself at the weekend, which will hopefully make things clearer.

If the door is currently in the closed position, and you can get the roller box cover off (typically just a couple of screws) then it should be pretty easy to see what is wrong with the mechanism. Most of the roller doors (at the cheaper end of the market, at least) use pretty similar mechanisms. I recently refitted a second hand Garolla door to my garage and most of the bits looked identical to previous Aluroll doors.

The curtain attaches to the central shaft (motor driven) by three sets of plastic links, that provide an 'over centre' mechanism when the curtain reaches the closed position to stop the door being possible to lift up. Sliding collars on the shaft engage to pins on the last of the plastic links. It is possible that collars have slid along the shaft and simply disengaged from the links, in which case it will be an easy fix.

I have now seen the problem. Managed to get the cover off. The aluminium slats have parted ways, leaving 4 on the spindle, I have now removed these. I can't see any obvious damage on the slots on the slats that have parted.

My plan when I return is to remove all of the slats and attempt the slot the two parts together again, then fit them back, attach to the spindle and attemp to roll the door up.

Any further advice?
