I'm in the market for a used GT car...
Discussion
Evenin' all.
I'm looking to get myself an interesting car for this year and will be used on a euro-tour (i.e Italy and back)
I currently have an Alfa 4C, and as much as I live the looks of it, it handles like w
k on anything other than a snooker table flat road, even after the geo mods.
Looking at something a bit special, budget 20-30k
So far I have a few contenders:
- Aston Martin DB9
- Audi R8
- Maserati of some sort?
I'm looking for other ideas, one of my main things being that I want it to loose as little value as possible (or gain) over the next couple of years which is my average ownership period. Not particularly interested in Porsche, had a coupe and just feel soul-less.
Ideas invited, stories, HELL NO's etc :-)

Hmmm a car that won't lose much value will be at the bottom of it's depreciation curve, so likely 15-20 years old, and might be very expensive to run.... astons and maseratis not known for being cheap to run! An r8 will be a bit flaky at that price point potentially.
How about a f12/f13 bmw m6? A lot more modern, nice turbo v8 for shove, and keenly priced right now.
Or some sort of merc amg?
Or how about a mustang?

I'd be looking at one of these brutes.

I have the lower powered 4.2 N/A version, and can attest to its credentials as a GT, having done a weeks camping at Le Mans for the last three years with it. With your budget being a bit higher than mine, you'll be able to afford the mighty XKR-S or a very tidy "standard" XKR instead. Ignore the infotainment system, yes it had sat nav, but i use my phone for maps as its much easier to keep updated. It does everything else absolutely right though. A wonderful V8 up front, and super sharp chassis with a well sorted suspension. Nothing else can give you as much car for your money.
It's flipping gorgeous too.

Depends what the Euro tours are.
1. Wafting through Tuscany with your partner - Boxster or F-Type
2. Tearing around with mates, like your pants are on fire - Alpine A110
3. Long distance drive to holiday villa & back - S63 coupe (now available for mid £30s, Chris H had some great things to say about them).

If you could find an R8 for £20k -£30k I'd be very wary about buying it. That's absolutely in the sludgy end of the pool, and you might regret it if it has expensive faults.
£30k and up absolutely with proper service history and decent mileage that's been cherished will be a lovely car to own and drive.

Another vote here for a 2011 onwards XKR.
Continent crushing GT credentials, and really a very good steer indeed. Also less likely to have a hissy fit than any of the cars mentioned in the OP. They were the most reliable cars in their class (large GT) back in the day.

Yep, I had two XKR's, one after another, and did several trips across France. Great cars and I think they were rather underrated. I never had any issues with any of the engines, including my Range Rover which had the same and managed 150,000 miles without complaint.
If you can stretch & haggle well then this Z06 fits your brief.
They're amazing cars BUT they aren't a quick seller.

Out of the mainstream options the 4.7 GT Sport:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202501047...
Or the XKR:

Not as interesting as the two above but a cracking GT is the CL63, it's a great car & it can be hustled down the road at a proper lick.
The drivetrain is bombastic.
Panamera GTS:
