I've got a 13 plate 330D M Sport Touring which has been a faithful servant, and until recently (see recent thread) I've done pretty well with running and maintenance costs. That is, with a large exception for tyres which have been a total PITA!

I seem to go through at least 2 corners every year and as they're run flats typically cost about 200 a corner. I've been loyal to Continental Sport Contacts throughout but now I need another 2 for the rears I'm thinking of changing allegiance.

I know most will say I'll get biggest bang for buck by ditching the run flats but as I don't have a spare tyre I'm going to stick with them. Thinking of going to Bridgestone Potenzas which are roughly the same price. Anyone think I should take a different route?

Usually less than 10K. It's got 101K on the clock right now.

Bin them; fit non RFTs and have a decent tyre repair kit in the boot

Drop to 18s too; much better choice of tyres then; that's why I run x2 straight sets on our F31 - 397s for winters, 405Ms for summers - both with 235/45/18 tyres all round

Wouldn't have it any other way

I agree with Dan, but its a personal choice. I don't have run flats on any of ours. Between me & the missus, it must at least 150k since a tyre had a slow puncture.

The tow car (535d) has a skinny spare. It's never come out in 16 years. PS4 lasted about 25k, rears have just replaced with PS5's as its in for MOT on Friday.

Normally the PS4s get at least 15k out of a set.

I've got tyre sealant and dynaplug kit in boot. I also use the latter for motorbikes.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4/5/4s are what I go for now. Similar grip to the Contis, better ride quality. Bridgestones are way behind both in grip levels. If you have a fairly powerful rwd car don’t expect huge lifespan of the rear tyres. I get around 10k miles from my rears on an E91 335d.

I switched from run flats to normal tyres, I have a pump and sealant goo plus some "bacon strips", and I just bought a spacesaver spare from roadhero to take on long journeys.

In terms of tyre, if you aren't going hell for leather constantly, which I'd imagine as you have a diesel is less likely, I've been quite impressed with crossclimate 2s as a "fit and forget" do everything tyre. Depends on likelihood of you encountering winter weather.

Not quite the same but G31 530d x drive touring - ditched the 20 inch run flats because of bulges, blowouts, inner wear and endless cracked rims. Now on 18 inch non run flat all seasons and after 10000 miles couldn’t be happier

Yup; the CC2s on my 130i and the Goodyear Vector Gen3s on the F31 have been superb and I'd be happy to drive on either all year round TBH

I don't think it's the runflats, I think it's the tyres - non-runflat ContiSportContact 5s only lasted around 10,000 miles on the rear of my E92 330d.

I went through 3 sets of 17" Pirellis on my 123d and typically got about 25,000 miles out of each set.

Then I had two E86 Z4s with 18" Bridgestone Pontenzas and while they hardly seemed to wear they had no compliance at all - ride was terrible!

Had an E91 325i with 17" Pirellis for a year and like the 1 Series they were fine, but I didn't have it long enough to judge wear.

Replaced it with an E90 330i on 17" Continentals and a set of Hankook winters so using both sets for 20K miles wear is hard to judge for those too, especially as I had some different rims with 17" Bridgestone Potenzas for a couple of summers..

Just to clarify all of these were run-flats. Pirelli were the best, Conti and Hankook nit quite as good but Bridgestone were terrible.

I have 18” Goodyear EfficientGrip runflats on my F30 335d, they are lasting well, and are approaching 30k miles. I have a staggered set, so they wear fairly evenly all round.

I ran 18 inch 400m's on my F31 330d xdrive with Goodyear Eagle F1 runflats.
Got 25k out of a set.

I have found Goodyears to wear quite well.

Well 4 shocks with no gas left and one leaking certainly isn't going to help with tyre wear.

If you corner hard and have OEM run flats, outer shoulder wear is very common on the front, especially with the SOO1s.

Another problem with the F3x platform is very little static camber, which exacerbates the problem. -0.3 degrees on base suspension and -0.45 degrees on M sport suspension. To eradicate outer shoulder wear completely you really need around -1.2 degrees, but that is not achievable with standard hardware.

You shouldn't be killing rear tyres as that end has a lot more camber than the front, so either your toe arms are worn out or you're spinning them up.

As for rubber, everyone says lose the run flats, but I say ignore that and get the Pilot Sport Zero Pressure as they grip for days and retain the correct steering feel these cars left the factory with.
