I’ve got a Garmin edge 1040 solar. On a ride, it often flags up warnings about various stuff. Today it flashed a warning, as I was riding through a park. It said “animal in proximity”. There was a guy walking his dog just ahead of me. How did it know? Did the dog have a gps tracker, was it a cyborg dog? Was it aliens? I really don’t know how the Garmin knew.

Because another garmin user flagged on their device the presence of a dog.

That works. When I got home it asked if the information was correct or not. There’s a database of info supplied by users, on the fly then? That’s another question, how do you do that?

my 1040 comes up with pothole warnings and gives you the option to tick yes or no if the pot hole is still a problem when riding along. To submit info on the fly.

Not sure how live they are, but if you're riding through the park the likelihood of a dog being there is high so it could be from any number of previous days/weeks.
