Brave of you to admit owning one but have you found any health benefits?

Asking for a friend, obvs.

Girlfriend got one to aid recovery - after it was suggested on a call by NHS24 discussing pain relief following an injury.
She apparently ended up speaking with a former surgeon & he recommended (I was sceptical that he had a side company selling them!)

When she used it we both did get a great nights sleep so I think they do do something.

However I don’t like sleeping on it for 2 reasons, the thick fleecy cover on hers means I get too hot sometimes & I did also google side effects (but didn’t find) to see if it any effects on male “readiness” as I was sure I noticed a difference “getting up” in the morning. (I could get out of bed & notice a difference immediately!).

Check out Sliced Bread on Radio 4 - they did an episode on them.

I listened to 'Sliced Bread', hence my question for users. I'm sceptical of such products, they always claim so much but provide no evidence - remember 'earth shoes' from the 1970s?

I don’t remember earth shoes but I’ll look them up out of interest. I would be sceptical too. I didn’t listen intently but it all sounded a bit snake oil.

What evidence there is is poor quality and the base premise is nonsense. But apart from that they're great! biggrin

It occurred to me that if the theory is sound we should get the same benefits (whatever they may be) from our electric under-blanket if it wasn't switched on.

biggrin You'd hope the blanket definitely insulates you from any wiring!

Assuming there are actually "good" and "bad" electrons then the earthing effect will only take effect when you first touch the sheet. Then, once your charge matches the earth, that's it. For electrons to flow continuously you need a circuit and two objects at either end of a wire isn't a circuit.

You need to get your head around the concept of static electricity and the way electrical charge ban build up on the body. Sure, earth it briefly and the charge disappears - but as soon as you are no longer earthed the charge can start to build up again.

But how much static do you generate in bed and how much dissipates thought the bed and into the air (which conducts particularly with higher humidity)? And if there is a build up that doesn't dissipate is that actually detrimental to our health?

And that's ignoring that the supposed benefit of these sheets is to connect you to the "good" electrons in the earth.

Agreed. The part of this that seems expensive snake oil is that all you need to do if you want to earth yourself in bed is get a copper bracelet and use a crocodile clip to attach a wire from the earth pin of any 13 amp socket.

On the other hand, if your name is Trump, Putin or Netanyahu, connect that wire to the live pin.

Electric blankets aren’t earthed.

It is complete bks. However, loads of conditions are psychosomatic and loads of treatments work because of the placebo effect.

So if someone is getting bad sleep because they're anticipating getting bad sleep and they can break that cycle because they think they've taken action that will help by buying a sheet (or sacrificing a chicken, or turning their bed towards the North, or drinking a glass of water, or whatever), then it may genuinely help cure their sleep problem.

Of course... I really should have known that!
