Office Chair recommendations please
Discussion
I appreciate that this is a bit of a dull topic, so I apologise in advance.
I work from home and have done for about 8 years, I have had the same office chair the entire time and the padding is rather worn, although the surface material has worn very well.
I got the last one from Staples, which has been gone for some time and there doesn't seem to be anywhere I can go and try some out, it's all online.
So if anyone could recommend a fabric covered office chair, I don't want leather or pleather, I would very much appreciate it.
Comfort is my key requirement, as I can be in it for many hours a day.
Thanks in advance.

Not fabric covered, but very adjustable and I find very good for long days. Reconditioned Aeron. There are different size of chair if you are particularly big or small.

I sat on one of these at work and fell in love with it immediately...

Have you considered gaming chairs?
I got this one a couple of years ago after a few office chairs not lasting long enough. Very comfortable with a lot of different adjustments etc.

This, HM's are heavy duty chairs meant for long stints... Buy new and get 12yr warranty, which is what I did 10yrs ago, found arms to be a bit loose, they came round and found other issues and gave me a new replacement !https://theofficecrowd.com/products/herman-miller-...
A lot to spend yes, but over 10yrs its a bargain !
Left field but I replaced my desk and chair a few years ago for a sit / stand desk.
I don’t sit down anymore when working from home to the point the chair has been moved out of the office.
Might be worth exploring, I do note my legs are killing me after being stood all day and there are pros/cons to the set up, but I also drive a lot and this seems a good antidote…

Thanks for all of your responses and apologies for not spotting a recent thread on the subject.
I just thought it was so incredibly boring that no one would have bothered previously.
I was anticipating spending a couple of hundred quid or so, I did not realise how little that actually was in the grand scheme of what's on offer.
I do quite like the idea of a standing desk, having had a play with one in IKEA, but am not sure if that would work for client meetings on Teams.

I bought this same chair from an office furniture shop, having tried a few options in their showroom - https://www.atlantisoffice.co.uk/Nemo-Mesh-Heavy-D...
The side supports are nice, as is the head rest. With the headrest (which I didn't have before), I can relax into it. Fits the bill of fabric too. I vastly preferred to this to the leather options which were a couple of hundred pounds more.

At the sort of budget on the suggestions above I would absolutely be considering an Eames replica of a classic office char such as the EA119.
Mobelaris make outstanding quality replicas at a fraction of the cost of the real McCoy.

In my previous architecture practice we always specified these, we even had them in our studio: https://www.orangebox.com/products/Do
Great customer service, super comfortable, a tonne of adjustment and genuinely office / uni proof so more than enough for home office use... mind you, the price does reflect their durability...

I'm seconding the Aeron... https://theofficecrowd.com/products/herman-miller-...
The maths here is a little like one's bed/mattress.. invest in a good one you will sleep better and have less problems..
I switched to the Herman Muller Aeron after various 'make do' jobs from Staples. 15 years on, just as comfortable as the day bought, little or no stretch or wear... clever mesh... or pellicule as they call it ....allows ... a nice free airflow.. very hygienic.
You must have the polished aluminium finish... 3 ascending sizes A,B,C.

I have an Aeron, but bought new in the Black Friday sale, it was £959 for a "Gaming Aeron" (basically a fully-loaded pre-built Aeron in black) and then £70 TopCashback, so buying used (either refurb or private 2nd hand) didn't make sense.
Also be aware that the Aeron design hasn't changed much in many years, so a refurb could be 20+ years old. If it has wheels to adjust the arm height it's old, if it has a lever it's newer (also called "Remastered" for a while).

IKEA do some decent ones at reasonable prices.
Yes definitely. This is a brilliant chair available in a range of colours at £199https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/hattefjaell-office-ch...
