I've booked a table for Friday lunch as a treat, anyone been?

Not a cheap dining experience but really like Paul's enthusiasm and always wanted to try it. Had lunch in his more low key place today, Caffe Rojano, and enjoyed the fixed price offer very much.

Yes, albeit a fair few years ago. Enjoyed it, and it was a welcome break from everything PadStein.

Yes we were there almost 3 years ago to the day.

Food was superb and the standard wine pairing was good value and well curated.

There have been a few changes chef wise there very recently, so hopefully up to its normal high standards still.

Apparently some bugger popped over to Gareth’s for a spot of scran the other night; however, Gareth didn’t deem them worthy of an audience, cheeky sausage.

Maybe things will look up this week, as someone’s enjoying a bit of nosebag at Paul’s gaff, the least the chef can do pop out for a bit of a chin wag.

I do hope, when I’m enjoying my pint of larger in the Woof & Bang, accompanies by egg, chips, gammon and pineapple; Brenda pops out from the kitchen for a little tête-à-tête.

Is this the new measure of a foodie, being on first name terms with the chef and enjoying a conflab. smile

I've heard Brenda has great muffins!

I’ve been a couple of times for lunch and I really enjoyed it , I’m no wine expert but the pairings do work well .
Last time I went the wife cocked the booking up so we rang on the morning and they said they could squeeze us in , I thought it was al for the drama and exclusivity but there was genuinely only one table available and it’s surprising how many “ lunch time regulars “ were in considering the price .

It was stunning, each course expertly created with a broad variety of flavours. Several extras and surprises along the way and service was spot on. Environment is modern but not at the expense of class. I ate alone and the bill including wine and a tip was £250 which sounds extortionate but was worth every penny. Highly recommended.

I chose sea for the main course and smoked eel for the starter. The pedro xminez has been replaced with a rhubarb coulis equivalent of a kia royal which was a real treat. Menu below.

Agree about sherry on ice cream.

How was it?

From multiple visits its good it's not wow.

The seafood imho better for what I want although appreciate the difference in theme completely.

It's good to take someone unfamiliar there for a first timer hence my multiple visits 😂

For me it was wow, best meal I've ever had. The variety and surprise were a real treat and the execution faultless.

It is my kind of place in that its informal but upmarket and not starchy (other than the napkins). My local starred restaurant is La Trompette and it was far more interesting and original than that in my opinion.

That's good.

I think the relative intimacy and formality (although it's not) compared with the seafood bring it down in my head. But then some don't like the seafood, red trousers braying buffoons hehe, grammers taking constant selfies/food pictures eugh etc but I love the informality of it and the nosh is mostly excellent if not as refined as no6. Steins other places are much of a muchness. But order the right thing and can be great.

Rojanos is great if pricy for what you get and the old Italian FOH is a condescending tool, mariners i do really like (although many don't) and the team there are great . But then I prefer POL and Barnaby's to no6 too but then I favour fish so not the best judge.

Horses for courses, glad it was excellent

You get a car?
Menu looks good, Spanish friends always serve sherry on ice cream. Love it actually.
