Hello all,

I hope that everybody is well?

My 1997 GTS seems to be thirsty at the moment, and not in a fuel type way! It's taking on quite a bit of water.

There is a sponge type seam at the bottom of my windscreen which is soaking wet, my passenger footwell is very wet as is the nearside of the boot, where the fuses/relays are located. I also have a fear that the water has gotten in behind the dashboard too.

Anybody aware of none issues with water ingress in these places, and if so, what's the fix? Any advice would be highly appreciated as I don't want the car to be wet inside.

As a last issue, my door switches seem to have stopped working. Anybody know where I can buy replacement switches/solenoids?

Thanks again everybody.

Presume you leave the car outside then?

1 The rear, open the rear Hatchback, you will find two drainage holes for rain water, they can get clogged so get a thin piece of wire and push it down the holes to unblock.

2 The sponge type seam is where the engine coolant pipes connect to the heater matrix, What you could do is using some black RTV carefully make a wall (dam upstand) around the sponge hole so rainwater will divert elsewhere or It could be your heater matrix is corroded and has sprung a leak or if you have been leaving the car outside rain water may have pooled in that area and found its way through the sponge material. The black plastic Hivac box also has a drain rubber on the underside you need to use a hex socket to remove the Hi vac box and also a phillips screwdriver. That will also expose the Heater Fan.

3 Window switches, remove centre plastic panel, flip upside down and disconnect window rocker switches, unscrew window switches, the rocker switches can be carefully taken apart using a small flat screwdriver and the contacts cleaned (if you know what your doing) be careful because you are now dealing with almost 30yr old plastic.
