Sports Direct refund?
Discussion
Long and a bit boring but would appreciate advice.
Bought a pair of outdoor Salomon shoes last week £100 odd. Size 11.
Got em home and decided they were too small after all (and my existing pair were 11.5 so confirmed it)
Returned to store with em. They wouldn’t refund and didn’t have 11.5 in stock so gave me a credit note.
They had 11.5s of the exact same shoe online so I ordered those with the credit note. Sorted I thought.
Next day get an email saying my orders cancelled as they have no stock.
Now I’m stuck with £100 credit and they have no other shoes or anything I want.
Any ideas? As they’ve not got the shoe I originally wanted can I now get money back?
Thanks all.

Their policy now is credit note only; which is a perfectly legal, if frustrating, alternative to a refund unless the product is faulty.
I had this a few months ago; luckily only for £45, but still bloody annoying. To rub salt into the wounds, their credit note bit of paper faded in my wallet quicker than a newly weds interest in sex. It was only my insistence on asking them to try multiple times with getting it to work on my next purchase that I ended up being able to use it.
Definitely take a photo of the barcode (what the cashier told me - a very common occurrence apparently). It’s a shame they didn’t offer that advice when they gave it to me.

I ordered a pair of trainers from Sports Direct and the pair that arrived were fairly similar, but not the ones I ordered.
They don't allow you to return them to the shop, and they don't cover the return postage unless they are faulty. I paid a fiver for return postage, but despite it being their fault they never did refund the return postage cost.
They have a clause on their website which states they are allowed to send you a different style of trainer. I did point out their T&Cs are not above British law, but they keep sending you to different customer service advisors until you lose interest.
I shop elsewhere now.

Good luck trying, SD is as bout as scamming as it gets with customers and refunds.
My daughter worked for SD for a few months, she seemed to spend most of her time having arguments with customers who hadn't read the refund policy that was clearly displayed next to the tills...That said, I'm not surprised that it catches people out as it's an unusual policy these days, especially when people are used to free returns on most internet shopping.

Not White Fox, my daughter ended up with a couple of hundred dollars in her account from refunds. Being a teenager and it not actually being her money I had to literally bend her arm behind her back to order some more clothes to use the refund. Don't get me started on the Amazon crap she buys, doesn't want and then forgets about. No refunds in Australia is pretty standard, caught me out the first time I wanted to return something as virtually everyone in the UK refunds.
I agree the Sports Direct thing is scammy and the reason I would never buy anything from them.

Update: I thought I had £100 credit but on returning to a store yesterday to try and find something I found that the credit note thing I’d used for the online purchase had no money on it. (It had been used up for the online purchase order).
It’s 6 days ago now I got the online order cancellation email which contained no refund or anything. So now I’m missing £100.
WTAF?!

I bought my son some football boots for Christmas via SportsDirect, in early December.
Paid on ApplePay, got an immediate confirmation on the website and thought nothing more of it. Boots turned up 2 days later, job jobbed.
However, come Xmas Day, they were a bit too small. No problem, do a return, yes?
Searched my emails: nothing. No order confirmation, shipping advice, delivery note, nothing. Like they were a ghost order. After much to’ing and fro’ing with SD I eventually found someone who could give me an order number, and sent me an invoice.
“Can I return them? To a shop?”
“No, sorry, online only”
I try the online return portal: “sorry, you are now beyond the 30 day return period. Send them in with a covering letter”
At this point I just lost the will to live and will lob them at eBay/Vinted and take a hit.
I’ll never buy from SD again, if I can help it. However it’s quite astonishing how much of the High St that Mike Ashley now owns, so sometimes difficult to avoid.
So, a word of warning, I would avoid using ApplePay with them.

Avoid using anything with them.
18th march my order cancellation. Today I’ve finally had a credit note arrive to cover the cost. Now got to try and find something in the shop I actually want. It’s in an email so won’t fade at least! Bound to be a time limit on it.
What else does Mike Ashley own then?

“
Yep. Noticed that too with some small retailers“
Another is tkmaxx. Order something online. Gets delivered. Try to return to shop with the online order confirmation and they say that’s not valid. We need the receipt.
Really annoys me
