Hi All,

I have a 1.0 Ecoboost fiesta that is struggling to reach temperature should it either be below about 3deg, or the A/C Is on. Outside of this, it works fine.

For example, this morning was a 14 mile drive to work, 1deg outside, never saw the gauge move - stone cold. Yesterday’s drive home, 10deg outside, it was absolutely fine.

Alternatively, I can have the car at temp, the heater running. If I then turn the A/C on, it will drop from ~90deg to ~70deg in no time.

The car is still in Ford Warranty, they say no issues present, I think the thermostat is fked.

Any opinions either way?

Yeah, certainly sounds like the thermostat (main one, not the short block one on the front) is sticking. A very common failure on Ecoboost engines.

Incidentally, worth noting that the graphical coolant temperature gauge is heavily damped and so is very slow to change. It should of course reach the middle once up to temperature though. It is better to monitor/confirm the coolant temperature, and it rising, with either an OBD reader or using the 'hidden' dash menu ( example) which also shows it.

(Edit: Just re-read and see you are already able to monitor the coolant temperatures so apologies for teaching you to suck eggs!)
