It’s what aircraft flight recorders use / used isn’t it? Due to its crash survivability.

Was it not invented during WW2? Think the brits and the yanks used it, don’t know who invented it though

A 1930s wire recorder.

The Germans invented magnetic tape and they were using reel to reel tape recorders during WW2. This one was in use in a wartime radio station.
