We’re almost finished an extension to our house and have patio doors leading into the garden,
I’d intended to put a deck outside the doors as the utility room door is in the same area, and i like building decks.

However I’m concerned about how slippery a deck may be. We have a couple of wooden decks, they’re a bit slippery when wet and lethal if it’s frosty. We’re in NE Scotland and its West facing.

Is composite decking much better than wooden or are slabs a safer solution?
It’s a decent sized area and will need to be dug out more if i go with a patio.

I replaced my old wooden decking with composite decking las summer, and i can confirm that the composite decking is just as lethal when it is frosty.
It's not as bad as wood when it is damp, as there is no algae/biofilm growing on it like you get with wood.

if you get a warm summer composite gets hotter than wood so dogs or anyone with bare feet may have have issues on the temperature

Composite decking also prone to scratching with furniture movement etc.

If you can, avoid decking in all forms!

I'm in NE Scotland as well, and just about to get rid of old wooden decking and replace with a new patio with porcelain tiles, looking forward to the change to be honest.

A high friction porcelain tile is the way to go imho.

As above - our composite decking is absolutely lethal when its frosty or icy, and too hot to walk on bare foot in the summer.

Well that was fairly decisive, thanks.
I’ll get the slabs and big pile of type 1 organised.
