My other half’s daughter is looking for something new and has been seduced by what on paper looks like a really good deal. Brand new top spec model with metallic paint for a shade over £18k if she takes their finance.
Given MG’s rather woeful reliability record, I’m trying very hard to steer her towards a Yaris hybrid, but it doesn’t come with all the toys she wants
Any thoughts on alternatives? Or should I just let her get on with it?
She does mostly town driving, 8-10k a year. Budget is £20k.

I would also suggest that she compares this deal to simply taking out a loan with her bank to buy a car. A £12,000 loan over 48 months is the same amount (£230 pcm) as a PCP on a new £20,000 car.
The biggest advantage to doing this is that at the end of the 4 years you own a car worth say £6000 which is a big chunk of equity to put down against the next car if you want an upgrade.
£12,000 will get you a 9 month old MG3 with 5000 miles.

It's not the same car though. As said above the new MG3 is a completely different car and much better than what went before it.The biggest advantage to doing this is that at the end of the 4 years you own a car worth say £6000 which is a big chunk of equity to put down against the next car if you want an upgrade.

I think they look good value and reviews are generally positive. Another hybrid supermini to look at is the Clio E Tech 1.6. Very smart, drives well and maybe a safer bet for reliability and residual value. But I don't think the MG3 would be a bad purchase.
The latest MG3 is a decent little car that represents value for money. If that's what she wants and she's getting a good deal, there's no reason why she shouldn't, really. I'd suggest a look at the Suzuki Swift if she'd like an alternative.

I don’t get the MG unreliable thing, it’s not based on reality
Yes the MG4 had various software issues when it was first released, but most of them have been sorted now
As a regular visitor to an MG main dealer garage, they don’t get a lot in for warranty repairs, compared to Stellantis and Nissan garages who have regular warranty work

I was going mostly off the What Car reliability survey, although that does seem skewed by mostly EV's having issues.Yes the MG4 had various software issues when it was first released, but most of them have been sorted now
