Volvo 780 (1990) front side/indicator light. Thought it might be 700/900 series but apparently not. Car made in Italy so could be an Italian car or another Volvo. Or anything in between. That said, Bertone remanufactured all the body panels so maybe Carello were commissioned to make 5000 light units.

Part number is Carello 16 496 716. other numbers are 40751 and P25-1

Initially they were split, clear/amber but later ones were clear.

Thanks for any clues.

(Got me wondering if it's 800 series now).

Looks bespoke to the 780 - I had a quick look at some Italian cars of the day and the closest was the phase 3 Y10 but it isn't the same

I can't believe Carello tooled up just for the 780. They must have been used on something else around the same time.
But Googling is proving very frustrating!

My thought too, 8515 cars made, say half were amber/clear and half were all clear and then there's right side and left side.
There again every body panel was different, and the seats are different to 700 series.
Will be scouring Tesco car park for an 850, there used to be one at the end of my street!

They look quite similar to those on the Fiat Tempra?

I thought that too but the Tempra nose was quite angled whereas these are a more vertical profile.

Reading up it seems the Volvo came out in 1985, so we need to be looking at mid-80s vehicles.

Not entirely following the question, but is it certain these were the original side lights? Looking at similar images and even on Italian built cars the units look much more aligned than this one, exactly the same both sides?

Is it definitely a separate side light? These are from an Alfa 164 and look like two light units on the car, but in fact are one piece.

Definitely a Volvo 780 (wiper on this headlamp unit but all the trim is the same), or is that not the question?

The owner has a Volvo 780 and would like to replace the sidelights. We are trying to ascertain if they were used on any other car as we can't believe they were made specially for such a small volume model as the 780.

The question as I read it was "what car shares the indicator unit fitted to the 780?"

The OP said it was from the 780 and the pic of the red car is a 780 - we're trying to guess / figure out if it's unique or shared with a contemporary car!

Looks 'similar' to a Lancia Thema.

I thought it was lifted from the joint Alfa/Lancia/Fiat/Saab project, but not 100% convinced

Ah right. Need a couple more photo angles, preferably dead from the front and dead from the side to see the exact shape as there are a lot of similar looking lamps from that period.

Hmmmn.... not the original Type 4 designs....

Closer to the facelift Thema with the thinner lights but the headlights and wrap around bits were 1 piece
