Presumably he needs to pay some tax (and solicitors) bills as a result of his HMRC case(s) and doesn't have enough assets to cover them:

I guess like a lot of people making lots of money, they don't think to put half aside for tax........

Possibly tried to use some kind of tax avoidance scheme which HMRC said wasn’t legitimate and now he’s got to pay the taxes and penalties?

What are the chances he’s shifted all his assets into his wife’s name?

Could have been set for life but got sucked into dodgy tax avoidance schemes , then the marching powder arrived and hey presto righty back to square one .
He has a second chance unlike some , let's hope he uses it wisely

He’s bankrupt for HMRC purposes. He’ll be living a lot better than me regardless.
